FTSE fell nearly 1% initially yesterday but recovered on the bullish attitude on the DOW. It's now up around 6850. Still short of absolute maximums (however you interpret the measurement) but looking a little peaky.

Hi everyone. Is there an up-to-date broker comparison app somewhere?

I've just seen the news that my online broker halifax is increasing its trading fee and hammering frequent traders. It doesn't offer a frequent trader rate and I have gradually become a frequent trader (a dozen times a week or more) and my original approach of choosing a broker without regular monthly/quarterly/annual fees has become a madness i need to correct.

I'm looking at iii but i'd like to compare brokers and check for hidden pitfalls.

I do my online research elsewhere so that's not an important feature for me but reliability, speed, support and ease of use are.

Have you ever looked at iweb, which is run by halifax share dealing, think its £25 one off fee for the account and no annual fee and then i think its £5 per trade

I opened an account up as a trial - I am thinking of splitting my portfolio (currently with HL) between iweb and CSD as I trade fairly frequently. iweb has a fairly basic web site - but fine so far. I heard from someone that US shares aren't available - haven't tried/doesn't worry me though.

£120 either annual or 6-monthly fee (can't remember which). But £2.50 per trade. At 144 trades a year, this may be cheaper for you.


Never used them, but the page I directed you to allows you to compare your current costs with their costs.

The wife and I have had S&S ISAs with IWeb since last Autumn. The website is basic but functional. I've bought and sold shares - I guess making about 12 trades and all has been fine. I have rang customer service 3 times (to bed and breakfast some shares and reset a password) and used online webchat once and each time the experience has been good. The only lowlight is that they recently removed low cost frequent trading but I can live without that as trades are cheap, and the S&S ISAs have no annual fee.

Given up looking cannot find it, at above what figure you have to notify HMRC even if you made a loss on selling shares IE the last I remember it was about £44000 would somebody give me a lead as to where to find the figure ?
