Ok, just a quick question regarding funds...

I understand the basic priniciple of what funds are and the fact the value can rise and fall etc.

I was just wondering how come it takes so long for funds to settle when bought/sold and to transfer the funds back to my bank account?

I sold a couple last week and it takes up to 7 working days to be paid back. I don't mind waiting, I was mainly just curious as to why it takes over a week?

This is a thread for shares so you might mean investment trusts which trade as shares. You get the money to use instantly and as cash within 3 days settlement time as all shares.

Unit trusts are more proprietary and confusing. Maybe 24hr to sell a week to cash. Thats relatively fast, you are in theory talking about divestment from a running business and its balance sheets are run annually not daily

What make you think so? What about this company that make you think, "why this one?"

I used to hold shares in GCM Resource back in 2009 on some vain hope that they might actually open coal mine eventually but I soon realised that it may never happen at all. So I sold out, back in March 2011 at respectable 141% return. Now, looking at it, I am glad I did!

Is it good company? It is literally a play on one government's decision to allow a coal mine which have been subjects of protests in the country. Does that appeal to you, knowing that the price jump if Bangladesh approves the project?

How much cash do they have, these aim shares tend to just print off some more shares every time they need more money. You start off with 1000 out of 1 mil shares then they issue another couple mil shares and you get washed out

On the other hand some companies are valued at 20m with 18m in the bank and its hard to see much risk in that

Thanks Sabretooth. I had an e-mail last night saying that a payment to my bank account had been made so hopefully it'll come by Friday at the latest.

I really should read up on ETFs and OEICs before I dabble in them again...
