Not bad, 12.% up! Did you buy few weeks ago when was 21p? its now 24p.
It will be back up at 50p within year. If me, I would hold on and wait to double your money... remember, used to be consistently 500-600p price! So getting to 50p is not unlikely.
I sold today at 0.26p. I'm sure they'd go up. But I just wanted to make a profit for my first share ever.
So on £104 worth of RBS shares I made about £1.20 after all commission. Which was £20 buy/ sell and 0.5% stamp duty. Happy with this little test. I'm thinking of trying again when I find a share I like. Prob with about £500 in.0 -
Write down your percentage costs on that. 20% gain is about a normal good result but for that to happen in less then a year especially with big companies is not 'normal' - RBS market cap increased by 6bn to do that so lots of money and tax paid!
So you could say you got lucky, gauging you progress helps success I think
I think 29 is a decent target for RBS and still quite modest but I sold some recently in order to buy other things. i have about £5k in 3 well known companies that i want to sell this year. firstly i need to know where is the cheapest place i can go to sell them? and the £64000 dollar question, if at all possible would it be better if i could hold of the sale for a time in near future when they may be worth considerably worth or at this stage of the economy would it not be worth hanging on?0
-
Well without knowing the companies and being able to do some research/give much of an opinion homealone, i would suggest that in a deflated economy its probably best to continue to hold these "3 well known companies".
On the other hand, if one of your stocks was say Apple, and you would be happy now with the gain made on selling, then feel free to settle incase the UK economy strengthens, and the US weakens, which would reduce the monetary value of your foreign stocks.
Thats my 2p.0 -
I'm using X-O after reading a recommendation on here. Very easy to use especially to a newbie like myself.0

Hi there
I would like to pick up some Bank of Ireland shares. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a difference between NYSE:IRE and LON:BKIR ?
The former is listed in the US in dollars, and the later is listed in London.
I've signed W-8BEN form for US shares (avoids double taxation, 30% on US shares as i recall).
I compared the performance graph, and it was almost the same expect for a few minor differences (just using google finance). So if simpler, I could buy as LON:BKIR However, they are lsited in Euros there.. dunno if that makes any difference.
Cheers0 -
If they look the same they probably relate to the same parts of the company. Its possible the dividend policy is different though suspended.
Somewhere theres a ratio to convert one to other and you can demand ownership most likely, hedge funds sometimes do thisMonday January 30 INTERIM DIVIDEND PAYMENT DATE Monks Inv Trust QUARTERLY PAYMENT DATE Dow Chemical Co INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS Business Climate Indicator (EU) (10:00) Economic Sentiment Indicator (EU) (10:00) Personal Consumption Expenditures (US) (13:30) Personal Income (US) (13:30) Personal Spending (US) (13:30) PMI Retail (EU) (09:00) PMI Retail (GER) (08:55) GMS Cairn Energy, Mecom Group, New Britain Palm Oil Ltd. I've had about 10 brokerage accounts since I started trading over 15 years ago. They have all been closed now due to inactivity or introduction of management / inactivity charges.
I am planning on starting trading again and was looking at competitive brokerage accounts which do not charge inactivity or annual management fees and they are few and far between. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not interested in offshore brokers.
Anyone dealt with SVS Securities? They seem to be what I'm looking for.
Many thanks!0 -
I've been using SVS for 6 months and had no problems. You don't get comparative data at a glance like you may do with others such as how much it's up/down since purchase but you can easily use yahoo etc for portfolio tracking.
Thumbs up from me - especially due to low fee!0 -
I opened a Vantage account with Hargreaves Lansdown in the end. Mostly because of the £1 commission promotion. But also because SVS had the longest application form I've ever seen for a brokerage account. They were asking far too many questions for my liking and I got the impression they were going to use that information to try and sell me advisory services in the future.
Also the Hargreaves Lansdown application process was all online and took just 3 minutes with nothing to post. I was able to place my first trade within a few hours.0
