HL add a 0.5% charge to shares if you hold them in an ISA, so be aware of that. For a standard share dealing account there is no "custody" fee. So if outside an ISA the £1 trading is a great offer!0

I had some shares bought for me in 2001 and after some research I have found out the company has been taken over. Does anybody know if these shares are still valid? Thanks0

Any views on Interior Services Group?
I've had an eye on it for a while expecting the share price would drop due to general market issues or tough trading conditions and I think the trading update yesterday has definitely done that, down ~19%.
Thing is the update itself said they expect to maintain the dividend which at the closing price would be around 12% so as a buy and hold it's looking interesting I think? Not sure whether to strike now in case the price rebounds back or hold until the seemingly poor figures are official in March, would be looking to buy and hold for long term so does that level of timing matter.0 -
Just learning the game so only added £115 (to low I know) but I'll write it off as a learning experience. Not like I've put my house deposit money on Red.
Anyway, I bought 483 RBS shares for £104 + £10 commission 0.21p a share (£114) from iii.co.uk. I think it's £10 to sell, do I have any more commission?
I thinking of selling if/ when they get to 0.28, should give about £10 profit.
Anyway just a log of me trying to understand the game and give me something to keep checking throughout the day.0 -

Just the £10.00 comm as you think.
Did the figures I think for every 1 pence above £0.2578, your profit will £4.830 -
I know many scoff at investing such small amounts, but I applaud those who want to 'dabble' - another word that gets slated and poo-pooed by 'serious' investors.
I am looking to learn, have read books, shoved £2k in on three shares, and a year or so on am down £600. I started so confident I would follow stop-loss points etc then got locked in and convinced tomorrow would be better....
I now have a virtual portfolio I can monitor on my phone.
My best tips so far are research, read, read some more. Usually my best hunches are on companies which are strong but battered by weak sector news or a poor performer in the sector dragging everyone else down. Worst investments were Lloyds and RBS - nuff said. Blinded by previous price and blind optimism.
I have watched Imagination Technology slowly creeping up and am hovering over EMED. I'd love to shove a grand or two on each of them but am told by she who must be obeyed that I can't put more in until I turn up a profit. Sound advice really.
So I am watching a lot of shares and reading and learning. It is a fascinating hobby, but try to set yourself some ground rules or you could end up getting fingers badly burnt.
Forums are fascinating, you learn after a while that there are hundreds if not thousands all talking complete rubbish very confidently on the forums. Today I watched RRL and they were all slating a poster who warned of a slide today after the big gain yesterday. It lost over 15% today.... I wanted to buy him as drink and make them all eat humble pie.If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused0 -

Not sure why, but I seem to see lots of table code dump in each post by sabretoothtigger, any ideas? See above for an example. I snipped a part of it0 -

Not bad, 12.% up! Did you buy few weeks ago when was 21p? its now 24p.
It will be back up at 50p within year. If me, I would hold on and wait to double your money... remember, used to be consistently 500-600p price! So getting to 50p is not unlikely.0 -

He posts this once a week usually, it's a list of forthcoming company events for the week - company results due, shares going ex-div, dividend payments, etc. Useful info.0
