Share Dealing Discussion Area

Hi. Sorry if this isn't the page to ask this but I hope I've come to the right place. Me and a good friend have been looking into a joint investment account to invest mainly in shares as a way of (hopefully) limiting the broker costs per transaction and learning from it in some way. I know this might seem like a messy way to deal in shares but as we each have our own personal savings, this is intended more as an educational project than anything else.

I haven't had much luck finding anyone offering this service after looking online for almost an hour so does anyone know of any bank/institution that allows groups to invest from a shared account? Any pointers in the right direction or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds familiar but I dont know of anything off hand probably because its not that cheap

I suggest you and your friend just buy things alternatively and agree to split the costs and profits. I presume the amounts involved are fairly small because you say you want to learn, I recommend just using halifax sharebuilder to buy small amounts for very low cost.

Its better to try unit trusts first as they follow a similar market direction to shares and are much lower risk and cost to buy. Sectors and investment categories come into greater growth in patterns similar to shares. Also see - http://www.stockchallenge.co.uk/site/hemscott/sponsor2011monthly.htm

With the news today about Thomas Cook, do you think it is worth picking up some shares in them? currently only at 10.7p each, down 70% today.

They had some trouble with Libya and Turkey bookings I think. Apparently the business is stable enough but what happens is if the growth is not great then bond holders take most of the profits making the shares of questionable value

I dont see holidays as a growth industry in europe not in a convential way. The shares were sold for a reason, some of it is always irrational fears but I'm more interested if Lloyds deserves to be its lowest ever, they will make profits so long as their bonds are also bought

Thats poor reasoning, you could have doubled your money going to the roulette wheel at your local casino. That opportunity is always there, you only missed out if you had a way to tell this was better odds

Shares in Thomas Cook (TCG) flew 3.71p to 21.73p after the struggling travel agency secured a new 200 million pound banking facility, which will last until 30th April 2013. The new deal will replace the firm's 100 million pound short term facility, announced on 21st October. Additionally, the banks have agreed to relax the covenants on exiting debt to provide Thomas Cook with the headroom it needs to survive in hostile trading conditions. Commenting on t1ps.com inafmous short-seller Evil Knievil said: "Keep selling. There is a massive short position and the presence of the lunatic bottom-fisher brigade. But they'll all give in in a few days. Ignore Goldman Sachs's switch from Sell to Neutral."
