i bought shares many moons ago when they were selling gas,electric and BT shares. i only bought whatever the minimum was allowed. shortly after sold my BT shares, big mistake for something stupid like £3.40. advice from a friend who funnily enough has still got hers at the time i sold them through a department store for £15. they have now been split and some have been given from centrica. anyhow i am thinking of selling them now even though i have hung on to them for dear life i now need them more than ever so my question is, is it really a bad time to sell? and question 2 is there a similar service now available where i can sell them for a minimal cost?

Well with the £1200 money back thing from stage coach i decided to re-invest £800 in a bit of a speculative punt in Bowleven which i got in at a pound a share.

21 years old with some spare cash, its the time to take some risks before its too late!

Is there a reason why the market for Chinese oranges is expanding particularly. 3% yield seems decent though, is this mostly a means to Yuan appreciation
Nice info readout, PE is 6.2 right


When you sell you need to consider what you will be buying instead. The combination of the two is what decides if its good or bad timing

If you say you will not be buying anything then I'd argue theres no great reason in general to sell now either

My first forum use and likely first share dealing.

Subject: Share dealing in 'real time'

I am not clear ... for me to feel that I have some control over dealings given the current volatility of the markets if I buy over the internet using a broker (whilst watching live share prices on my PC) will the broker be buying then or within minutes or buying at certain times or days? Also how quickly should I expect a broker to react if I request a sell while I'm watching live share prices fall?. I take it buying and selling within a day with a broker is not unusual.

The broker site will be showing real-time live prices (which will be more accurate than you will see on your PC); when you press the button to trade a stock (buy or sell) you will be offered an instant price (pence to 4 decimal places) and you must press accept to confirm that price within about 10-15 seconds - the deal is done at exactly that price.

Just over a year a go some posters spoke about Beowulf Mining. I want to thank them for this information. This has performed very well since I purchased shares in them 15 months a go. To update those interested. They just recently got part of their resource to JORC level. Not all of it so the share price took a hit. However they have an extensive programme coming to get the whole deposit to JORC standard. This hit has has given investors an attractive opportunity.

They are funded now for the whole of next year. There is also interest in them to buy their resources in 6 months after due diligence!

I have a mish mash of ISA and Fund holdings, and would like to dabble with some UK shares (nothing grand but an outside risk I could get to the Capital Gains limit in a great year).

I wondered if anyone could point me to spreadsheet or software (preferably free or cheap) that would help me keep up to date with worth and UK capital gains tax position.
