Everything has some tax or cost involved, premium just appear free. The simplest idea is unit trusts and a regular investment and alot of them can be very cheap say 0.5% over a year cost

The Halifax share builder is a good way to start trading, it only costs £1.50 commission and a couple of pence tax. So for about £100 you pay about £2 in charges and the rest you buy the shares with. The maximum you can spend is £200.You do have to buy on a certain date which is the gamble but depending on the company you choose some vary very little anyway and now most are down anyway so you could bag a bargain.Patience is key with investing. Remember you don't lose money until you sell, if the shares are down now they can always rise again.

Theres a big thread on SL on this forum. They are ok, likely to go sideways and keep paying out a nice dividend

Anyone got any suggestions to relatively stable and decent dividend paying companies that i should perhaps look into? That i can prefereably DRIP (?) the dividends into buying more shares?

I have thought about buying some shares but literally have no idea what to do!

My ideal would be dealing only online and only in small random amounts once in a while.

I'm sure this has been discussed but this is a very long thread and don't fancy reading back to 2005!
