Hi, can anyone advise the best way to buy just a few shares? I only want a token number as a Christmas gift for an 11 yr old who wants to go into banking after school and I thought she might find it interesting to own a few shares in a company she will have heard of, possibly something she uses or maybe in Santander as she tells people when she grows up she wants to be "the boss of santander"

I only want to spend about £20 and am not doing it to ever make a profit, just to teach her a little bit and get her interested in and understanding how it all works.

Preferably would like a certificate or something tangiable to give as the gift and won't be regularly buying or selling any other shares etc.

Seems to be so many options I'm confused!

I think with trading fees and stamp duty it won't be worth a £20 investment to be honest, it's a lovely idea but she will only end up with about 1 share :eek:

Not sure if this is still the case but just incase it it worth investigting. If you have santander trading account they do free trading in santander shares once a month.

I have never sold or bought shares, I have been told there is a site that allows you to do it for free so you can learn about how it all works, then you can look at buying shares.

Would anyone happen to know if there is a site that allows you to do it?

You can do limit orders, stop loss and repeater order for no extra charge.

Just my two penneth- but be careful with stop losses (if you're in a share for the long term).
