Landlord thinks we have pets, even though we don't. May refuse to renew our tenancy?

Drying clothes indoors? Pretty much guaranteed to be a source of humidity thus damp thus mould. Tumble dryer!0

Yes we told them we don't have any pets and we had given away the Guinea pigs, but the agency is still giving us "reasons" why the landlord still thinks we have pets and that we have to get rid of them otherwise we are breaching the tenancy agreement. We have told them but they keep assuming we have one or so, so I don't really know what else to say. I feel we did the right thing by asking if we could have a pet on the property even though it was outside, rather than sneak one like a lot of people do. We were told no so we gave them free to a good home.0

Have you tried explaining that what he can smell is damp? The landlord also says he can smell a pet in that specific area. All I can smell in that area is damp.
Have you tried finding the source of the damp, lifting carpets etc?0 -
The kitchen is so small there is literally no room for a tumble dryer. We had to buy our own washing machine0

Get a heated air dryer e.g. the dry:soon range

With a cover there is no damp I find, we got one a while ago and it's amazing, no more drying laundry smell from radiators or damp in airSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Re damp I feel your pain. Or at least I did until I used the dryer at the laundrette instead of drying clothes indoors and spent £12.50 on ebay for a second hand electric dehumidifier. Best £12 I've ever spent in my life. I strongly recommend you consider investing in one.
I know you say you have no choice but I don't have a garden either and there are choices. Do your washing on your day off and use the laundrette dryer (£2 a go)
1) laundrette
2) dehumidifier
Best two choices I've ever made. My flat is completely dry now and no condensation whatsoever.0 -
I would also look for options to heat the part of the flat that isn't getting any heat. A fan heater, or even a desktop fan that just moves heated air from one part of the flat to the damp area will help greatly.
A dehumidifier is a good option as they are portable so you can take them with you if you leave. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -

But where does the water from these go to? It still has to go somewhere so presumably out into the air. I don't see any difference between drying on radiator and these. A humidifier is a great plan, these both dry washing and have a removable tank to empty.0 -
we had hutched Guinea pigs before we moved in, the agreement on this new property said no pets but we did ask if we could keep them outside the property in their hutch, we were told no by the agency, therefore we gave the Guinea pigs away.
Poor animals, cast aside like rubbish.
In the future, even if your LL says you can have pets, please don't get any, you don't deserve them and they certainly don't deserve you.0 -
They weren't cast aside. We tried hard to find somewhere that allowed pets, as we kept them indoors a lot at our old property. Even after we moved when went to the old house for weeks to look after them but when we were told no we realised it wasn't fair to keep them somewhere that we had to drive to as they didn't have the free roam.like they used to. I've kept rabbits and Guinea pigs for years and they have also had free roam of the house. We tried to find an alternative to them not being in the house all the time without having to give them up. But the agency was adamant no. Don't be so judgmental before you know the whole story.0
