Penarth Marina site tonight overcharged for two items got the "our policy has changed refund only" patter from supervisor at customer services with manager right alongside at time, after a few moments of enlightenment I received my "refund and replace" manager tried to infer I had upset supervisor (actually she was fuming at the fact that I was right and she had to cough up) by standing my ground and (advising her to read the wording of the policy from the board she pointed out to me) I could see what was coming and bluntly pointed out to him that, had he ensured his staff were knowledgable and compliant with their own policy no discussion would have taken place as I would have left the store once receiving my refund, yet another incident where supervision and managent were using recent policy change to account for double scanning and underpriced items to avoid refund and replace.
I will be calling their head office because I know how common this practice is and how often customers are intimidated by the your upsetting the staff line, this is again often used to deal with customers who stand their ground in order to avoid a simple "very sorry I got it wrong" statement.

Just to re-iterate the Tesco policy it states "If you are charged more than stated on the shelf label or the product label we will refund your money and you can keep the product" anybody in any doubts simply check the customer service counter as each store has it clearly displayed and don't be afraid to get them to read it back to you even if it is just to hear their voice drop as they get to the relevant paragraph!

This resulted in a further saving of £2.68 off a shop of £27.00 using £14.00 of coupons and buying 15 copies of Best with £8 of usable coupons inside.

Profit on this shop totalled £129.32 just for turning up and educating their staff for them again!!

I'm sure you can all understand this is not a service I could provide Tesco with for free!

I have got 6 copies of best. The first copy I took all the vouchers out of and produced them at the till. None of them scanned through, including the 35p best voucher and I had 5 best in my basket!!! I went to customer service and was told they would take the 35p best and one other complimentary voucher providing it was less than 10% of the bill. Is this correct? Thanks for looking.

I got this from tesco customer services. If you want a copy,pm me with your email address.
"With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products."

Another budding little Hitler I'm afraid, Tesco current policy is one of EACH coupon as long as they sell the product, it is not store specific (Tesco, sommerfield etc), there is NO current upper limit specified (although I am sure if you ask customer services at head office they might set one) store managers CAN accept more than one but are expected to act responsibly when doing so and this is solely at the managers discretion. although if your having trouble getting just one coupon accepted it is highly unlikely the manager will use his discretion to increase it though.

Make a phone call to their head office along the lines of:
I very much appreciate that you will accept coupons for products that I have not purchased and would be glad to abide by any conditions you may have, however each time I attend your store I am embarrassed at the till by the staff's lack of knowledge of this policy and refusal to accept my coupons, I usually submit four or five different coupons on a shop of around £50,000.00 and whilst not a lot of money is saved it means I can pop one or two luxury items into my basket I would not otherwise have purchased,, it makes a dent when I get to the till as my budget would not normally stretch to these luxuries, if you will only accept one of each coupon then that is fine that is all I will use, if only one coupon then again that is fine but the situation at the moment changes on a daily basis and has made my shopping trips extremely unpleasant by the constant embarrassment. can you please just let me know what is acceptable and what is not.

Pile it on let them know how you used to shop at Sommerfield,Asda, Sainsbury's or whatever alternative you have locally but changed specifically because one of their employees advised you that you could save a little by using your coupons at Tesco before they ran out of date, how you realise that their prices aren't as good as your old store but the savings you make submitting your few measly coupons on such a gigantic shop to feed your eight children and the pleasant displays and normally very helpfull staff make up for it.

They will give you a guide line, then simply pop down your local present your coupons and batter the little hitlers over the head with their own head offices words, you will find you will be given a lot more respect by the staff as they will realise your not one of the ones that just walks away with their tail between their legs at the sign of a neat shirt, gawdy tie and mis-spelt namebadge.

One call to head office will let you know exactly where you stand even if they tell you none at all (which they won't) you have lost nothing because that is pretty much what you have from the local store now anyway.

It is amazing how quickly a wolf can turn into a sheep once poked up the !!!!!! by the shepherd!

Never had any problem in Culverhouse Cross , or up the valleys. Can only assume it's because they're a snooty lot in Penarth.
" manager tried to INFER I had upset supervisor ". Sorry to be pedantic but you mean imply ?

no you would only have been pedantic if you had been correct in your correction of my grammar, he didn't imply, he stated, I had upset his assistant by deliberately misinterpretating the circumstances thus infer and not imply.
    HTH

And yes they are very uppity at Penarth Marina!
