#2 reporting £652.91 for November. It's been an expensive month - some of it for good reasons (sunny fortnight in the Canaries and re-decorating the kitchen & utility) and some not so good (I've had a lot of health-related costs and the dog needed a general to get her teeth scaled!). Just 1 month to go of this year's challenge and it looks we'll fall just £250 short of the 22k target we set at the start of 2019 - so I'll be happy with that. If Thomas Cook hadn't gone bust we probably would have hit target.
Good to see reports of people closing-in on their targets for 2019. And a few people returning after a few months absence, welcome back!Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.0 -
#46 reporting £260 for November. Well done everybody for getting this far with building your savings this year. Am already looking forward to next year's challenge!0

£250 added this month so I'm up to £8.5k this year.
There are some great totals on here - well done!0 -
Hi,
#003 declaring £500 for December.
Have filled in the form also.
Could you please put me down for the "Save 12k in 2020" thread, same 6k target please?
Many thanks!

#100 reporting £750.67 for November.
Don't expect to save a lot in December with Christmas to account for, will need to take stock on 2020 savings plans before setting the next target.
Happy to reach the £4k target for the year at this point :j0 -
Love seeing the totals come in at the end of the month. SF if you are starting to put the thread together for 2020, please could you add my name to the 2020 challenge with a target of £35000?
Huge thanks for running the thread and apologies that I got side-tracked with my updates mid-year. Next year I will be more on the ball with them!
Well done everyone, no matter how much you have saved this year and even if you haven't reached your initial target like me, we are still saving and are better off than we were at the start of the year.0 -

I'm going to look at an S&S ISA next year. I've gone back and forth on this, because I want to keep most of my money in cash (as it will likely be spent within the next 5 years), but looking at how well my pensions are doing it does feel like I'm missing out on growth. So my plan for 2020 is to round savings, collect a pot, and when it hits c. £100 put it into a S&S ISA. That way my regular savings shouldn't suffer, and I'm only investing "extra" cash. And effectively it will be drip-feeding, but irregularly, so no commitment to invest more but still not doing very large lump sums. Any thoughts on this from the S&S ISA gurus on here?
Sounds like a good plan to begin with - you can make some passive income with £100 investedBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Have to say - I love running this thread and seeing people save money. But, some of the totals each month make me feel like I'm not good enough - the monthly total is more than our household income combined
Then I try and remember that I'm doing my best, and continue to plod along regardlessBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Don't say that, slowlyfading! People have very different life circumstances - it's much harder to save if you have kids, for example - and I'm sure we all have very different jobs. What really counts is what percentage of your income you save, and I bet in those terms you're putting away quite a lot. I know people who are paid very well and still save nothing, and other people that have quite small incomes and yet manage to squirrel quite a lot of savings away. Also, if your needs are modest, you're much better placed for the future than people who think they need a high retirement income to be happy.
If you're providing adequately for your present and future, then you're doing what you need to ... and have helped a good many of us do the same over the years, for which we owe you enormous thanksxxx
