Have to say - I love running this thread and seeing people save money. But, some of the totals each month make me feel like I'm not good enough - the monthly total is more than our household income combined
Then I try and remember that I'm doing my best, and continue to plod along regardless
Everyone is different and if you are doing your best, you can be proud of it
You'll have things that they won't - little kids etc and comparison is the thief of joy!
To make you feel better, reporting in my November savings of -£244.55. Spent way more on holiday than I was intending to, however, it was the trip of a lifetime and I wouldn't change anything.
I was going to hope for a better December, but it's kicked off with me having to replace my phone so let's see.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

I am currently at 98% of my £12k goal (about £200, now £450) so it really is going to be close if I reach my goal or not!
This negative figure is not that surprising since it includes a holiday I have paid for in the new year, on the 0% credit card but I include that balance as a negative for my monthly saved amount.
I know in the back of my mind that my actual amount saved is slightly higher because I only track savings I make from my net pay, because I make some AVCs and SIP payments which are taken from my gross pay (so I don't really 'see' the money at all). Something I might consider including in my 2020 challenge!
Some great figures elsewhere and I hope everyone is getting into the festive mood! :santa2:"If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett

If you're providing adequately for your present and future, then you're doing what you need to ... and have helped a good many of us do the same over the years, for which we owe you enormous thanks

If you have kids and you are still saving! I think that is a massive achievement!
You don't know the circumstances behind each and every monthly total. Numbers don't tell the whole picture and the struggles and failures and achievement behind savings. Number are useful as a fixed point and a guide but don't get too fixed on it.
Thank you!I save a lot at the moment, perhaps more than anyone else in the challenge, but it reflects particular circumstances at a particular time of life.clarissa62 wrote: »SF you're doing a wonderful thing running this thread. I personally have have had a really tough year financially where for the majority I was limited on when I could work due to personal circumstances. This thread was a lifesaver as it made me keep the hope up my dream of home ownership could still happen so please don't compare yourself to anyone and be proud of your own achievements. I'm hooked and definitely carrying on next year and wanting to build upon the progress made.
Thank you; I hope next year is better for youBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

SF, you do a fabulous job, juggling everything you do. I am in total awe of how you manage things and I have all the days to do stuff and still it gets left. This is my first year, a good year yes, but I was, I am very fortunate.
Next will be very tough, my target will be 10% of this year and that will be a struggle, but inspiration is from this thread and others on MSE, I just want to thank you for all your help, all your efforts and tips, I hate to use this word, so American, but you really are awesome
Ah, thank youbioboybill wrote: »I know what you mean, but if somebody is saving more than your household income combined then that's just that they are getting paid a lot more than you that's all. Not a great deal you can do about that. I for one am really grateful that you started and manage this thread so well. I've saved more these last 2 years than for the rest of my life due to the inspiration from this. And it looks like early next year we might have to spend £5K+ on dental implants for my wife, so the money we've saved is a real "lifesaver" there.Merlin's_Beard wrote: »Everyone is different and if you are doing your best, you can be proud of it

#112 reporting in for November. Somehow managed to put aside £671 for this month (google form completed). December should be a good amount as have interest from maturing accounts and dividends from investments coming in.
I'd also like to sign up for the 2020 thread but I'll only start with a target of £6k as I'm not sure what that year will bring yet.Save £12k in 2023 #17: £19,085/£24,000 (79%)

Great slowlyfading, I've signed up and can see lots of others have already. Thanks for continuing to do this.
I've submitted my Oct and Nov updates. I'm on target, at 93.0% of my annual target with 91.7% of the year gone. Last month was a bumper one as I managed to sell a couple of old laptops. Can't do that every month though. December will always be expensive, but as long as it's not too expensive, I'll make my target. Hopefully.
Final push now everyone, keep up the good work!0
