Well I've just paid the plumber nearly £2,200 to replace a bath and radiator and fix a waterlogged bathroom wall, and I'm trying to organise new guttering for the house, well overdue, so my adventures in non-saving continue :rotfl:I think this is officially the Year Of Maintenance. It's okay, you know, because these are jobs that need to be done, it's all part of life to have expenses, and if I hadn't joined this challenge back in the day, four or five years ago, I wouldn't have the money to pay for these things and would thus probably not be getting them done, which would be much worse, because the wall/guttering etc would continue to deteriorate and cost a lot more in the long run.
On the plus side I just got a pay rise from work and I'm confident I will end up saving something for the year, even though a target of £12,000 looks pretty tough from here.
What a great post cathybird! That is why we save - so the money is there when we need it. No loans, no debts, no interest. Fantastic! :T:j:T:jSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Aw thanks Suffolk lassI am conscious I'm currently dragging down the totals everyone has saved on the spreadsheet because I am in negative figures but it won't be that way for too much longer, I hope.

I know it's peanuts for some, but I've found this month really tough for 'bits of lots of' reasons. Therefore I'm proud of myself!

tighteningthebelt, I would be really sorry to think that anyone might hold back from joining in with the challenge just because the amounts they planned to save were small compared with some of the other people taking part in the challenge. If anything I'd hope people on smallish incomes would feel it was a good thing to take part because when there is a limited amount of cash coming in that's when it's imperative to be careful with it. So even if £650 was a tiny amount (which it isn't, it's a good chunk of money) it would still be a great thing that you saved it.0 -

Exactly, Keepers - every one of us has different circumstances. Some have dual incomes, some bringing up children, some retired etc. So if there is any comparison (which there isn't) it would be with ourselves and whether we saved more this month/year than last.
It's the fact we are all here together, as Baroness says 'accountable' to ourselves, sharing our little ups and downs that is so encouraging and motivating.

We're all doing the best we can to put a bit aside, and only spend when it's meaningful, and we're all here to commiserate the 'bad' months and celebrate the 'good' months, and let's be honest, no one really judges each other for what number is attached to 'good' and what number is attached to 'bad', because the words around the numbers are more relevant for whether it's a well done or an oh dear, better luck next month.
So, well done :T
I've got £812.69 for this month, which is... okayish. I had some extra come in after opening an hsbc advance, and I spent it, but hopefully on something that will make life easier.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
