Just updated for March... I’ve had another month where I’ve managed to save more than expected so I’ve increased my target :)
  • Declaring -49.5 for March!

I'm still waiting for a £300 reimbursement for fitness; and around £950 which my parents will return to me as I paid for their second holiday (they don't do online banking, so it's easier for me to do it).

A couple of big expenses crept up this month (my phone died-ish after 4 years; I was able to trade it in for £155, but still had to pay a chunk to get a new one). So hoping that the next few months will be better! Onwards and upwards I guess!

I've been late in updating the total saved for March.

A whopping £2,268.46 - the quick form has been updated.

Well done to everyone that has saved for the previous month and are keeping it up!

Let's all have a solid April of saving.

#18 reporting savings of £955.14 for April.

I started matched betting in February to make a bit of extra cash and it was going really well! Until Cheltenham that is...instead of making matched bets, I was betting for fun and ended up over £500 down! No more matched betting for me, seems I cannot handle the gambling temptation lol
    Saved so far - £28,890.97

Thanks for your honesty - I was curious about matched betting but based on this experience it looks too risky!

I did a bit of matched betting back in the day and made just over a grand and I know people who made a lot more than that. I don't reckon it's risky, though it is fiddly and you have to be careful you have set it up properly - but it is not the same thing as real gambling (which definitely is risky). It was time-consuming though and it did my head in slightly to be spending so much time on gambling sites - it felt a little soul-destroying. So I took the low-hanging fruit and then stopped. There is money to be made if you have the patience.

The only real risk is if you have no self control when it comes to gambling, which i did not (with horses!) If you follow the methods properly though, you can easily make a few hundred a month but it is time consuming and a pain signing up to a ton of different sites and having money scattered all over the place. I made about 700 from the matched bets in a month-ish (but lost that along with 500 of my own money lol)

I also did some matched betting about 10 years ago. For me, as someone who has never bet on a sports event, it was hard to understand at first but worth the learning. I think I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't gamble. For anyone who enjoys gambling, I think it would be a bad idea. I have only ever bought a rare lottery ticket if I have maybe found £1 on the floor, or joined in work sweepstakes, so actual gambling feels risky and wasteful to me.

Ticking over as expected, however I'm now in the process of changing jobs. Results may vary!
