This is prettt similar to me. About 8k of my total will be from my regular saving but the extra is going to be my big challenge
I'm trying to think about a small extra month by month to break it down. Better that just wondering where 2k is gunna come from.0 -
Hi everyone!
I am hoping that this challenge will help me on the road to a deposit, being realistic with myself though, 12k may be pushing it so if it's still ok to join can you pop me down for 10k (may as well still be above what I currently think I can achieve to push myself to be better)
Good luch and fun saving all. :j0 -
Thanks to those that offered responses and advice to my earlier query!
I've been excited to get underway with this challenge and have started logging every penny that I spend so that I have to justify it to myself.....we'll see how long that lasts!
I have decided that I will count my mortgage overpayment as a saving, as it is money that does hit my bank account each month which I choose to invest in that way. However I won't be counting my pension contribution as that's not money that I actually see at this point despite it being a sizeable amount. I'd rather count the extra that I can save from my take home rather than a deduction from my gross pay.
Taking that all into account, I think my £3000 target is actually a little low and I'm going to adjust and aim for £6000. I may fail, but I think having something to strive for rather than something that I would hit without making any changes (already save around £300 p/m).
Looking forward to hearing how everyone else gets on through the rest of January!

Hello! May I join this challenge too?
I am aiming for £10k in savings and started the year with £2750, so can my target be £7250?
I've done my budget for the year and if I stick to it I'll only be able to save £6k (eek) so going to try and push myself as much as possible! Saving for a house!
I take the purely from my salary, any other income (I have a second job, mystery shopping, matched betting etc) will go toward the £2019 in 2019 challenge.
Thank you
Good luck everyone!£2019 in 2019: £650.48/£2019 (32%)
£12K in 2019: £250/£5000 (5%)
Current savings: £4170/£10000 (41.7%) [£5830 to go!]0 -
January is a long month for me, with last pay day being a week early but I’m still hoping to have saved come the end of it! Every month I use up all my spare money but I have been so good so far. I hope to move a set amount from February the 1st going forward rather than seeing what’s left at the end.0

Time to bite the bullet and save properly this year, you all seem to do well on this thread so I'm hoping it will rub off on me

@slowlyfading – hello, please could I join with an aim to save £12,000 this year?0 -
So far this month I've moved £300 to my savings account opened for this challenge. I'll see if that's still there at the end of the month...
I want to go on some hiking/backpack trips this summer, & the kit is expensive. So I'm trying to save £2k & buy all that!
Next two months look fine as there's loads of double time overtime at work & I'll be saving £88 more than normal in Feb & March as there's no council tax to pay!
Currently drawing up a kit list of what I need for summer treks & how much it'll cost.0 -
Just got a letter from the taxman with a check! I'm owed just under £300, which is going straight into savings. Fabulous way to start the new year!!
January will be a darn long month. My old place used to pay us on the 24th of each month, my new place pays on the last day of every month. So my budget needs to last until Jan 31st! So far this week, I only forgot to take my lunch to work once - so, so far so good!#115 - Save £12k in 2019 challenge: £13152.85/29419.55 - 44%

At the start of the 2019 thread I thought I'd post the totals everyone has saved right the way back to the start in 2012 - over £7.7 million saved in total - amazing!
