We are off to a good start here. Usually, the husband gets paid at the start of the month and we wait until the end to transfer but are trying it the other way round for now. It will make it tight until I have been paid but we are leaving the cards at home and paying with the cash I have already taken out.
I am also spending my last few days off work batch cooking and hopefully getting an etsy page up and running.SPC #062

Hi all. I've been hearing great things about this thread over on the January 2019 Grocery Challenge thread and I'd like to join for the year if you'll have me.
@slowlyfading could you please put me down for $12,000? I'll be in America for half the year and then will move to Scotland but I would probably keep thinking in dollars for the rest of 2019. Looking forward to joining in and seeing everyone's progress!0 -

I've moved the standard £750 for the month into my 3 x regular savers (£250 into each) plus topped my TSB current account back up to £1490. That makes my savings for JANUARY = £2240 so far. I don't intend my monthly savings from now on to be anything like this amount, as I'll also be starting mortgage OPs (or rather, saving mortgage OPs into S&S LISA, which I am considering to be mortgage OPs rather than savings). This month was just to top my TSB account back up as I emptied it completely when buying our house last month! The TSB account represents our immediately accessible emergency savings (we have others, but would take a couple of days to get the money out of them)MFW2023 challenge #99: £1090.11 / £1,000 MFiT-T6 (Jan 2022 - Jan 2025) challenge #99: Reduce mortgage to £400,000. Only a year and a day behind I took last year off as I paid for a major op and I’ve been paying it off monthly. Left me very little to save.
Anyway, I’m in for the full £12k this year.£20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
Good to see many starting well, after investing in some furniture late last year, I feel I have some catching up to do this month!
However, keeping it tight currently by:
1. Stockpiling food: after the Christmas store closures I was finding pre-christmas stock reduced in Lidl. Fill your boots.
2. Buying extension ladders second hand... felt reluctant to spend on this frankly as they're fairly pricey, but I'd rather invest a bit to get the maintenance jobs done; long term I know it ends up being false economy to put them off. The price comparison says they're £80 cheaper than they'd cost from the DIY shops.
3. Cancelled anti-virus subscription. Freeware will do the job fine instead!
4. Controversial perhaps as this one goes directly against using the cash method of saving, but went for an Amazon credit card: amex acceptance is a bit sporadic to get cashback on, so trying to use a card that I can actually get something out of! £10 gift credit is a good start, it'll come in handy later.Save 12k in 2019 #100: £4388.37 / £40000 -
