    I'm in!

Goal 1: lose a fairly substantial amount of weight - say 10-15 kg - hopefully before a holiday in Sri Lanka in April. Well - at least 5 kg by then!

Goal 2: Declutter wardrobes & drawers.

Goal 3: (And this is the one I do hope I can achieve) - move into a granny annexe at the bottom of the garden, with no 3 son & wife and twins (who will then be 18 months old) living in the bungalow which is my home atm!.

    December 2019 update

This is how I got on:-
Goal 1: I did lose 6 kg before the holiday ...but 3 days before we left Sri Lanka (which was wonderful btw) I tripped, fell and damaged my back - only ripped muscles, but it left me in a lot of pain for quite a long time (still not quite right) and unable to do a lot of exercise and so the 6kg sadly returned :-(

Goal 2: Well........let's just say its an ongoing project :rotfl:

Goal 3: This has happened! DS was offered his dream job locally, so with only 8 weeks to arrange it, they put their house on the market, emptied all their stuff into my garage/storage shed in the garden, and moved in, lock, stock and barrel complete with 19month old twins and dog into my 3 bed bungalow. They got a sale on their house in late October (and at their asking price!) and we are waiting for it to complete before we start on the process of them buying mine. We have got the plans drawn up by the architect for building me a granny annexe in the back garden and they go before the planning dept in January so you can see where next year's goals will be! In the meantime, my house looks more like Hamleys Toy Shop. But Christmas 2019 has been a delight!

    My aims for 2019 -

    - walk 1000 miles - Time to dig out the Fitbit
    - lose 50lbs - I think I'm going to go with calorie counting for this one
    - Add another £5000 to my house saving pot - just gonna keep on doing what I'm doing
    - Decluttering my house, specifically my bedroom and the spare room - have no choice with this one as I won't be able to take it with me when I move house :rotfl:
    My six monthly update :o

    - walk 1000 miles - this will happen as I've switched jobs and do a lot more walking. Fitbit doesn't work though and I'm too tight to replace it :rotfl:

    - lose 50lbs - about 3lb off so far :rotfl:

    - decluttering my house - not happened

-add 5k to my savings - not doing too badly so far

My brother was diagnosed with terminal cancer a month ago and up until this week, the prognosis wasn't good. The outlook is slightly better now but everything has been on hold for the last month and everything has taken a big fat side step :o

    - walk 1000 miles - Time to dig out the Fitbit has probably happened but I can't prove it. I did buy another Fitbit in September and have done about 400 miles in October, November and December
    - lose 50lbs - I think I'm going to go with calorie counting for this one i lost 2lbs :rotfl:
    - Add another £5000 to my house saving pot - just gonna keep on doing what I'm doing i did manage it but decided to use a chunk of it to pay off my credit card so I'm totally debt free :D I've still got around £6K. I've not been adding to it so much recently but come January I'll be back to adding everything I can :)
    - Decluttering my house, specifically my bedroom and the spare room - have no choice with this one as I won't be able to take it with me when I move house :rotfl:this one IS happening :D

    1. Get some of the things that need doing to the house (mainly living room walls skimmed and some of the garden walls rebuilt) done (I'll have to find trade or trades to do them as I'm rubbish at DIY)

    2. Save £4000-5000 pounds (relatively achievable)

    3. Actually set a date for our wedding, which means deciding where we want to hold it

    I guess 2 out of 3 isn't too bad.

    1. Garden walls fixed, though the builder tells me that the footings on the back garden wall aren't up to scrathch and the whole wall will need knocking down and rebuilding at some point (will probably last another 4 or 5 years and it's been up since mid-70s). We had the walls in the living room skimmed, then we painted and put up new wall lights. also replaced the lights in the garage so it's no longer like a bad horror movie when you go in and switch on the lights.

    2. Savings account curently has around £7.5k in it.

    3. No further forward on wedding, though as you can probably tell we're not in that much of a rush :D
  • Ooh exciting to see people are posting without any prompting from me. Guess I’ll have to do likewise :)
  • Sorry for the all capitals below but it’s too fiddly posting in colour when I’m on an ipad. I am shouting a bit on the yeses though!

A mix of success, failure and could-try-harder.

How did everyone else get on?
So I’m going to make a start on my resolutions for this year, though they’ll be work in progress over the next few days:

    One offs
    • Make a will (again) FAIL AGAIN
    • Go to Spain to visit family YES
    • Refresh bathroom (paint and reseal bath) YES THOUGH NEEDS DONE AGAIN!
    • Get outside of the house painted YES
    • Check all Direct Debits and cancel any I don't need YES
    • Change internet provider YES
    • Keep a note of spending for one month NO BUT I DID PAY ATTENTION TO RANDOM SPENDING FOR MOST OF THE SUMMER

    Health
(As a smug note I’ve lost a stone the last year, much needed)
    • Go to all of my exercise classes YES
    • Eat healthfully and use supports regularly (e.g. My Fitness Pal) YES A BIT
    • Focus on not drinking alcohol, it makes me feel worse GOOD FIRST HALF OF YEAR, FELL OFF A CLIFF THE LAST 3 MONTHS
    • Be more active at weekends DEFINITELY IMPROVED THIS YEAR THOUGH GOT LESS GOOD SECOND HALF OF YEAR
    • Walk 2019 miles STILL OWE 2 MILES AS OF 29TH DECEMBER :) SO A YES
    • Think about meditation again THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND DECIDED NO
    • Improve vegetable consumption YES

My end goal is to have lost at least another stone over the year, ideally more, and be close to my goal weight of 147lbs BIG NOPE BUT AT LEAST A DOWNWARD TREND IF ONLY BY A FEW LBS

    Family
    • Be more accepting of who and how people are YES HAVE COME TO TERMS WITH SOME STUFF THIS YEAR
    • See close family regularly HAVE A PRETTY DECENT ROTA GOING ON THIS
    • See friends regularly and try to come up with reasons for regular dates HAVE DONE MY BEST BUT FRIENDS HAVE HAD A LOT GOING ON IN THEIR OWN LIVES - THIS YEAR I’M THE LUCKY ONE

    Work
    • Do my day and go home - it’s only work MOSTLY YES, LESS GOOD LATTER PART OF THE YEAR
    • Connect more with wider team and be more of a team player HAVE BEEN TRYING BUT IT’S HARD WORK, HAVE CONNECTED WELL WITH 3 NEW PEOPLE BUT NOT WIDER TEAM AS YET
    • Build networks (go to events, meet people) NOT SO MUCH
    • Be OK with saying no (politely) A BIT
    • Be positive NOT SO GREAT [ROLLOVER]

    Finances
    • Keep up to date with financial admin - check in once a month YES PRETTY MUCH
    • Save £600 to long term savings WELL OVERSHOT THIS IT WAS A GOOD YEAR FINANCIALLY
    • Continue to build short term savings fund (£1200) AGAIN OVERSHOT THIS
    • Keep OH up to date with our financial position WORKS WELL WITH POINT 1

Beyond all of that, my other goal is to be kind to myself, to accept that sometimes things are tough. THINK I HAVE BEEN A BIT BETTER ABOUT THIS

Longer term I’d like to do some decluttering as well but as per the above I’m not putting that pressure on myself just yet. Of everything above, the health/weight loss is by far the priority! ACTUALLY DID A DECENT AMOUNT OF DECLUTTERING IN THE END, JUST THE ATTIC TO GO REALLY FOR A DEEP DECLUTTER

Get an all clear of cancer - did that, yay.
Go on holiday at least twice - didn't do that, underestimated how long the treatment would be and how much it would affect me and long it would affect me [ still doing that now]
Celebrate a belated birthday - did that
FInd a new way to make a living that doesn't involve doing what I did before - haven't done that because I'm not back in work yet...
Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi
  • Well I usually say I want to lose weight and clear debt but as I've more or less done that I will have to think of something else!

So, as I plan to walk the Camino de Santiago in 2020, I think I would like to have as my 2019 challenge to save up £1500 to finance the trip.

I also knit squares as a means of trying to reduce my screen time which are then turned into blankets ....so I think I would like to send off enough squares to make 4 blankets ie 140 squares as well as 140 hand warmers which I also can knit.

Well that was a big fail on both accounts :rotfl::rotfl:

In my defence I have managed to knit a fair few squares but still have to work on reducing my screen time.

The saving hasn't really happened either but fortunately we're in a position to cover the cost of the walk anyway.

    So here's the 2020 challenges:

    1) to walk the Camino de Santiago....I've already booked the flight out & the first couple of nights accommodation

    2) to knit enough squares to hit 2019's target....I certainly have the wool !

    3) I'd also like to knit a temperature blanket for 2020

    4) would like to restart reading more; think I need to leave the tablet downstairs in the nights
  • Errrr .... :rotfl:

    * Pay off my debt - will have paid off my "bad" debt in a couple of weeks, but now have a car on finance as I needed one ASAP, so guess I can say I paid off most of my bad debt
    * Start regular saving - did, then used the savings to pay down some debt
    * Re-introduce exercise and gym sessions as a regular thing and get into shape - hahahahahahahaa no.
    * Try and be more positive and grateful instead of negative and worried :o - Don't really know what to comment on this, I didn't really set any markers that I could identify whether or not I had achieved this as well as I wanted to

Looking forward to doing this kind of thing again, though, some things are much more do-able now :)
