:) Number 125 reporting in with a payment of £2154 for September.

    Many thanks julicorn

It looks like you hit your target for the year, congratulations! Would you like me to increase it for the remaining few months?

I understand that - I'm now at just over £20k, but started at £229k. It's been a journey!

What worked for me was to break it down into small chunks, so that you're never more than a month or two away from a 'mini-Milestone'. And, as you get going, start looking at how far you've come, that's another source of milestones.

My experience is that the "it's endless" feeling never really goes away, I still feel it even though i'm over 90% done. But I just look at the next mini-Milestone (getting sub-20k next month), then in a couple of months the next one is interest dropping below 50p a day, then £10k will be a few months away. Just keep chipping away :)

Thanks for this advice and also the advice Utopia has given on here. I have gone from my mortgage being £82,000 and being able to pay anywhere extra from £500 to 1k off a month, to a mortgage of £191k and only being able to pay an extra £200 or so a month. It is a bit over whelming not to make the big progress I used too, so I need to start thinking in mini-goals as you suggest, hopefully that will help me to feel a bit more like I'm making a difference :T

Ah thank you. Yes I just need to keep remembering this. Every spare tenner thrown at the mortgage is actually £18! It's disheartening having been able to overpay by so much more each week until recently but it really does all add up!

Well, it depends on your interest rate - I admit I based this on mine which is rather high due to being near the end of the mortgage and choosing to overpay as madly as possible rather than getting a fixed rate. However, the long term savings are undoubtedly worth factoring in for everyone.

utopia, congratulations on reaching the end! It's an encouragement for us all, but it must be the best feeling for you! Do you have plans for all the cash you've just saved? :)

Julicorn, please could you add another £100 to my September total? Thanks. #30.

Number 30 yet again... Please can you add £220 towards my October payment, Julicorn? I'm very excited because tomorrow when my automatic payment and these recent OPs hit the account, I'll owe less than £2,000. :j:j:j

Thank you! It's not really sank in yet. We will look into pensions and maximise and add to savings pots. Both our cars are old 16yrs and 10 yrs will need replacing but only when necessary. I will still live a very mse life as I hate wasting money. our only vices are taking holidays. We will continue to this but still look for the best deals ......old habits die hard.

That sounds similar to us. My pension is first on the list but I want to have savings elsewhere too... and some holidays. :)

    Have fun!
