  • WHDFW back from holiday and throwing herself back into the DFW ways.

We had a super holiday, really lovely villa, weather (Spain) superb, quality family time etc etc. Now back home, laundry done, washed ironed and put away (medal well deserved) with 2 and a bit weeks of school holidays left.

The good news was that our summer holiday came in just under budget. :). Last year I was bemoaning the fact that we spent too much this year the budget having been duly adjusted we were ok. It was a lovely feeling to get back and to be able to pay off the Holiday CC completely.

Managed today to pick a new savings account for the holiday money since our old one has now reverted to their standard rate. Applied on line and hopefully that will be opened within a week or so.

Saw DD off on a Guide PGL trip today. I'm missing her as its her birthday on Thursday and she'll be away. Mind you she will be having a wonderful time and she's back on Friday.

DS's were meant to be visiting their GP's for a couple of days today (free childcare and FAB time had by all ) however DS2 picked up various aliments on holiday (ears etc) which from this am's Doctors visits is two lots of antibiotics and one lot of steriods. Quite scary really but he's ok and is better at home.

In between being laundry walla today I was checking bits of paperwork that had come in whislt we were away. I idenfitifed that EDF our gas and elec supplier have had us on the wrong tarrif since I changed in Feb. Hopefully this will wipe off the £90 they reckon I owe them.

Back to work tomorrow :( but it pays the bills. I need to work out the debt totals however given last months overspending its not really reduced by much. Still not worked out how I am paying for my new specs (which are still lovely) and the clothes shopping I did at the Next sale. Day at a time though.

    Budgets under control
    Debt under control
Job hunting commencing again with avengence
Fitness regime under way (dog trot tonight all done)
    Family chilled and tired

    All's well at present....

  • Thanks both - I don't feel rested from my hols but I do feel recharged if that makes sense. Missing two kids at present (DD and DS1). DS2 is on the mend now which is great so just need to keep him busy tomorrow whilst OH is working from home. Just taken the dog out for a long trot tonight so feeling energised after a day back at work!

  • Great day today with my lads. Took them to a park place which also did canoeing !! What a laugh. DS1 was quite the expert with all his Scouting/PGL experience and DS2 and I were hopeless. Good fun though and we managed not to capsize unlike the family in the boat behind us. We did laugh it would have been a rotten drive home soaked to the skin !!

Paid the balance on our October holiday today which was nice and I've sorted out a new savings account with a better rate of interest than the old one for our holiday savings.

I missing DD today as its her birthday :o She rang earlier than expected tonight but I was out dog walking (:A in the pouring rain I must add as well). She's home tomorrow night so we'll have a celebration then. She's a teenager now

Work for me tomorrow and last day for the boys in holiday club. They only had to do 3 days there all holiday which isn't too bad. No doubt I will be in trauma next week as I sort out all the school uniform and shoes required.. The clothes budget is already in meltdown...I don't expect our debt will reduce by much next month as a consequence.

My DS reminded me today that we still have the dreaded uniform run to do. DD is off to 6th Form so is in casuals, thank goodness, but DS still has 2 years of high school to do, and is in adult clothing at adult prices......damn those growing boys!!

  • Ouch that sounds very expensive. I moan about DS1 wearing out rather than growing out of his shoes but his is very much in kids sizes. I'm not even going to explore the coat situation, I daren't! My meagre clothes budget never seems up for the challenge of the uniform run nor my nerves either! I'm braced and ready though.......

I was lucky with a coat - managed to get DS a Bench jacket as "expenses" on a mystery shop :D Was one of my better assignments I have to say!!
