WOOHOO IT IS :xmastree:.....DECEMBER..... :xmastree:

What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady thread. If you need help organising your week or getting motivated when it comes to housework then come and join us.

Thank you to Valli for last week's thread

There are 3 levels per day with depending on how much time you have. Feel free to mix and match to suit your own personal circumstances.

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up.

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week:

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!

Some of our abbreviations: DH- dear husband, OH- other half, KH/CF- affectionate term for ex husband or partner :D DS/DD- dear son/daughter, DGC- dear grandchild, WM- washing machine, DW- dishwasher, LR/DR- living/dining room, RoD- room of doom, Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al- supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!

    I'm in...thenks Natty.

Though I think Scrimpers would be better of being suspended for the month of excess!

Had a picture of a left hand and a sparkly ring... one of my nieces is engaged.

House is minging. Grey rainy days = lack of cleaning motivation.

    Thank you lovely!

    Erm.. I'm here.. kinda-sorta-wannabe!!

I have 3 ebay sales to parcel and one already done to go.. £70 in my paypal.. KERCHING!! I am so skint it is unreal.. my mother owes me £380 plus £130 for the loan so she is going to be skint too.. but thats not my problem.. she asked me to do her shopping for christmas and I've done it!! it ain't cheap!

After christmas I need to get my wedding ring resized.. it is about 3-4 sizes too big and driving me insane flopping about.

WM can go on when OH gets home from work. I can't watch any tv rubbish as I cannot find the remote which was here 2 hours ago.. and I have Pixie off school tomorrow.. she seems fine now but was sick during the night so she is home until Tuesday.. because I am a responsible parent!!

right.. first thing for this evening.. I need to wrap at least 2 boxes of stuff.. and when OH gets home I have a bookcase and a chest of drawers to help get out of the car so he can get the girls to school tomorrow.

DS1's partner lost her mum on mothers day 2012.. it is DIL's birthday today and she is in the hospital with her dad who is going to pass away any hour due to complications of his T1 diabetes.. I don't know if anyone has seen but in honour of him and DS3 I have chosen as my 'FB birthday charity' JDRF.. I doubt it will raise a great deal but every penny helps in the research to find a cure for T1 diabetes.. so if anyone is able.. I would appreciate the help.. and if not that's fine too.. I donate to them quite often.

Prayers and guiding light and peaceful passing vibes very much appreciated.. we hoped he would spend one last christmas with his 4 children and Fabian but it looks like we need to let him go. My heart is truly breaking for DIL.. she is such a lovely young woman and we can't protect her and she has her 3 younger siblings to care for too.. :(

Thank you, and I'm here. Behind as always, not sure how that always happens.

DD is soooo stressed for her mock GCSEs this week. I don't remember being under so much pressure at 16.

Pigpen - lots of thoughtful vibes to your DS and DiL. So hard. X

Thanks for the lists, Valli and Natty. I shall be "in" as much as possible this week. I still haven't got round to writing any Christmas cards, but I'm very pleased that this weekend I have sold all the toys that DGD1+2 gave me for the toddler group - except that I have no room for a large play kitchen and a box full of different kinds of play food in our very limited storage area. Now, instead, I have a tidy sum towards the group's running costs, and there is suddenly space in our spare room and on top of the chest of drawers in our bedroom :D

Thank you for all good wishes for my DH. He is considerably better this evening, having done almost nothing all day, but tomorrow he will have to change his horse piddle appointment to a time when I can take him, as even he agrees that he is no longer fit enough to travel to the hospital in the big smoke on his own, by train. Unfortunately his appointment next week clashes with the toddlers' nativity service, where I need to be... Fingers crossed for a cancellation!

Thinking of you and yours, pigpen, and prayers for a peaceful passing for your DiL's dad.

I'm in but it will be a week of chaos.
Finally we have finished the wall preparation and painting of skirting boards/picture rails/banisters so we are ready for Decorating Man to start wallpapering on Wed. Mr N will be assisting so let's hope between them they can stay on the ladders intact.
I've got 3.5 assessments to write up and 2 more to carry out.
Need to do a whole range of admin tasks, Christmas tasks and try to keep some semblance of cleanliness in the house despite the contents of the hall etc being spread around the house.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.

Despite the doomladen sayings of teachers who will come under greater pressure from on high if the mock results are poor, when the kids are stressing out, I have told them that the point of mocks is that they are rehearsals for the real thing. They're designed so that the kids are used to sitting in the hall with a single desk, have invigilators walking round and can't mess about before they get to the ones that matter. And if they panic or do really badly in them, they're meant to act as the biggest kick up the backside they've ever had so that they take the final exams more seriously and work to cover the bits they haven't grasped in earlier lessons. You're supposed to make mistakes in rehearsals - so you don't make them in the show.

In addition, whilst colleges will look at mock results, they take into account the schools' assessments of the applicants' broader levels far more than just the numbers on the list.

I have been told by kids that this actually helps them, too.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
