Vegetarians eat more than cheese

Looking for vegetarian food is a bit like any other "specialism", you could equally say there's no Chinese option on the menu, or no spaghetti bolognese.
When food places sell food it's based around their preferred menu - they're not there to be fully inclusive of every variation going.
Sometimes the choices we want aren't available... and that's disappointing.
They are businesses, who need to make a profit - if it were seen as a profitable change they'd offer something else.... that's the way the world works. It's not profitable for that business to put something different on the menu.0 -
No point being Vegetarian anyway if for ethics, more animals are harmed by being Vegetarian (baby chicks into grinders/debeaked for eggs, calves taken from Mothers for milk etc).
There are thousands of Vegan options, never had an issue. Try The Happy Cow app. Only annoyance is pizza places only have veg toppings not meat, and there are so many beautiful Vegan meats like Pepperoni which is identical in taste, no abuse0 -
Of course theirs a point we all know the cruelty as described, but if I dont eat meat at least its some cruelty reduced.0

If you're a vegetarian who replaces meat with an increased consumption of eggs and cheese, then yes, I see the point about the same or even increased animal cruelty. Those that replace meat with mainly vegan options like tofu and still eat dairy occasionally are still better than those who make no effort at all. Hell, I even admire people who do meat-free Monday every week, as they're at least doing something.
There are many ethical reasons to reduce your meat consumption that are totally aside from animal cruelty - reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from livestock, or reducing the need for so much grain to go towards keeping said livestock instead of going towards feeding people, for example.
Saves money too, which is why we're all here!0 -

Sadly, the dairy industry is more cruel than the meat industry. Check out a video called Dairy is Scary if you are interested.
OP - another vote for visiting the happycow.net site if you are looking for somewhere you and your friends can all enjoy

Had a poke around HappyCow.net - 'Veg options' is so broad - it includes places I've been to that have very few options, and places that have a vast vegan menu including vegan ice cream for dessert all under the same category - and having to click through from the map view and read reviews of them all to tell which it is is really time consuming. Discovered the list view which is better for differentiating between them and sorting by rating etc, but then if you're in an unfamiliar place you don't know if it's miles away.
Would love it if they added the star ratings from reviews to the mouse-over showing the address, it'd make it much easier for those who don't have much time. Obviously I do at the moment, as I've just spent an hour on it (while having a tasty Goodfellas vegan pizza!), but when I'm on holiday somewhere unfamiliar, I'd still do my normal research ahead of time instead of relying on that site/app.
Purely vegan places are few and far between in NI. There are just four, three of which are in the Belfast area. My advice to those appalled by meat using that app who have 'never had an issue' - don't visit Derry!0 -
Whenever I dine out, I tend to go for the vegan option as I am lactose-intolerant.0

I have been veggie for about 20 years, it's much easier these days. Even the big chain pubs like the Hungry Horse are now doing vegan food, something I never thought I would see. There is obviously a lot of money to be made if you cater properly for vegetarians/vegans, those that don't will suffer financially
Unfortunately the worst offenders for meals full of cheese are the expensive gastro pubs, where you get stuck with a risotto, macaroni cheese or a goats cheese tart. I don't eat in places like this as I cant stand that type of stodge.
If I were you I would look the menus up on line before you go, and if someone suggests somewhere unsuitable suggest somewhere else that you know will cater for you. Where I live I am spoilt for choice (Surrey). I wont eat anywhere that serves horrible vegetarian food, which thankfully is becoming less and less as so many people are eating that way these days.0 -

Is pepperoni vegan? I always have assumed that it must have some kind of meat content...
Are there other vegan meats?
