Vegetarians eat more than cheese

Nah, it's actually really easy for pub-grub places to have LOADS of veggie options if they want. The food is mostly frozen and just reheated anyway. They defrost popular things that sell well to reduce cooking times, but at least 50% of the menu is frozen. I used to work in one.
Yes, that's why I referred to "ding " food much further up the thread in two different posts
It's mostly bought in and have you ever tasted a good pre packaged
Vege meal..No, hence why it usually has to be something with cheese.0 -

Well, they can't both be throwing out loads of it and it be frozen.
I've had perfectly OK microwaved curries and the like - it's nothing special, but when you're out with friends in a pub and paying barely more than for fast food, what do you expect? They're no better or worse than the meat options!0 -

Yes, they are worse than the meat options .Not sure what the relevance of me editing is.
Cheese adds instant strong flavour, which a large number of people like.
Chick peas don't.
When you edit and don't add a reason, or use 'edit:' it makes me look like I've only quoted part of your post.
In my opinion the meat options and the veggie option of microwave curries are of the same quality. We'll have to agree to disagree.
Lots of places have absolutely terrible veggie burgers that are basically potato with a few peas in, but that's a whole other story!
I happen to like the flavour of chickpeas an awful lot, but we're all different. I like cheese too, but with it's high fat content, I have to be careful in how much I eat. You can't call macaroni, drowned in a basic cheese sauce as a 'strong flavour' - to me it's bland, dull, unhealthy and all too commonly the only veggie option. I know it's the only 'value' ready meal I can buy for those days I can't cook!
Chickpeas and their more flavoursome sister falafel are far healthier. They're also vegan, appealing to more people. If a company HAS to have only ONE veggie/vegan dish, it makes more sense to me to have something based around chickpeas/falafel than the currently standard cheese. I don't see the obsession with cheese for veggies - probably lazy chefs who are used to working with cheese!0 -
I edit my posts a lot partly because I have problem typing , I'm sure no one minds if it looks like you've missed a bit, or if I dont put the reason for editing.
I didn't say I didn't like chick peas, .
As I said, the reason they use cheese is also because it's a catch all.
I think calling them chefs is overly kind.
'I'd still rather have macaroni with cheese sauce than a frozen chick pea .
It appeals to non veges too.
It's a business decision.0 -

Cheese isn't a catch all, it excludes vegan, as I already stated. There are around 540,000 of them in the UK.
When I was talking about lazy chefs, I was referring to the chefs who make the ready meals the 'ping cooks' (as we called ourselves!) heat up. All food served in a restaurant is made by a chef somewhere down the line.
No restaurant would serve a single frozen chickpea, aside from maybe The Fat Duck.0 -

I know you love to argue but I'll make this my last post.
Cheese is a catch all. Meat eaters and veges will eat it.
I don't consider processed food to be made by chefs, it's made in a factory.
As for vegans well, we've already established they won't be catered for in your average pub.0 -

I'm just replying to your posts, the same as you're replying to mine. To me it's a discussion not an argument. I'm sorry if you're reading my posts in a hostile tone, that is not my intention.
Processed food recipes are still devised by chefs, even if they are mass produced. Meat eaters can eat chickpeas just as easily as cheese - and I'm saying vegans SHOULD be catered for in your average pub!
(Though it'd be equally boring if the only option was chickpeas everywhere. What we really need is more diversity and options!)0
