Gloomendoom - it's Flamborough Head, in East Yorkshire. And there's a lot of edge to slip off of.

I am 56 years old and I have an enlarged heart, Osteoarthritis in both knees, Rhuematoid Arthritis, Lupus Arthritis, High Blood Pressure and Pompholyx Eczema. I am obese. I am trying to lose weight and am doing so slowly. I am trying to incorporate more exercise into my daily routine, but I could never see myself doing classes in a gym as I have tried them in the past and they were not effective for me as I was too self conscious.
I will continue to learn from all of you inspiring women who have changed their bodies and in doing so their personal health outcomes.
My goal for this year is to lower my blood pressure until it is in a normal range for me.0 -

Ok so this week I am looking at doing 4 classes at the gym.
Considering I usually do only one......sometimes two......this is a bit of a challenge for me.
First one done last night. A step class which I really enjoyed.
Will be doing body balance on Thursday morning, Yin Yang yoga on Friday morning and a different step class on Sunday.
If I can do this........I am hoping to keep this up all year. Now need to go to boring work. :cool:Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
Thanks sugarbaby125, I'm chuffed to bits that you find us inspiring!!
For the removal of doubt, I've aimed this thread at older people - all colours of the rainbow are welcome! But fred246, you do understand that any mention of 'woman' falls under - 'all references to gender shall include both genders and the neuter'...
I'm really sorry sugar that you find you're self-conscious when you go to a gym. Believe me when I say that half the people there, if they notice your size at all, will be thinking 'I remember when I was that size', not in a nasty way, but just because. But the bottom line is that you have to find the thing (or things) that work for you. Never give up!! Ilona (unless she really has fallen off a cliff...) will be along in a bit to sing the praises of walking. I prefer the 'quick fix' of the gym, some people swear by swimming, or dancing, or jogging, or yoga, or zumba, or ... etc etc. The main thing is to Just Do It, whatever it happens to be. Let us know how you go on!
Kantankrus - I may need a lie down after reading your post!! It sounds brilliant. Shame work has to get in the way!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

Ha ha:rotfl: I havent actually done it yet! I have been a gym member for ages but mainly concentrating on yoga type things but realise my heart needs a bit of a workout too. I find a step class gets my brain working as well, as the routines can be tricky to master to start with but I really enjoy it.
Another bonus is I sleep really well when I get more exercise.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
I am off to my 2nd of 3 free trials at the local running club tonight. I am very slow and my technique is terrible which I think has been the reason I have developed a few injuries trying to run in the past. I am hoping that they will be able to guide me. Life is very busy and I think running is the easiest form of exercise to slot in as-and-when.
I asked for another spa/gym membership for Christmas. The spa visits are nice as it is the only decent pool (several pools in fact) in the area but the main aim behind the package is that it allows me to go to the big gym onsite as a PAYG member. I said this last year but never went. This year is going to be different.
DD takes up quite a lot of my spare time as she needs driving to lots of different activities (evening and weekend) but she starts driving lessons next month so I am hoping for liberation by the summer.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

EdSwippet-you made me laugh about your sore muscles. I know just what you mean,
I did the body pump class. Bits of it were too difficult but I just did what I could. The pace was a bit frantic-even the regulars said so! We were all too busy watching the instructor to look at each other.
I'll go back I think though not this weekend. Have a social engagement when the class is on. It has inspired me to try other classes though.0
