I’m lucky in the sense I am only stage 2 and I do think all my walking in the past has helped. I do struggle in the cold wind but I always stop until I get my breath back. I do not want to be in a situation that I can’t go out.

I did smoke for a long time but gave it up 11 years ago, I grew up in the fogs of London plus all the family smoked, I also worked in a very dusty environment for 25 years so that also didn’t help

Its a horrible disease and when I see youngsters lighting up and thinking they are cool.......I want to drag them and show them what they could possibly be letting their future selves in for.

The only good thing that has come out of my mams suffering is that neither me or my brother have ever smoked and nor do any of the grandchildren. :T

My mam smoked from being 12 years old and only stopped in her late fifties when she got pneumonia. The damage was unfortunately already done. :(

I enjoyed run club this week in spite of the cold - I like the variety and social aspects of it rather than just plodding away.
I am taking my coach as inspiration - I don't know how old he actually is but he did his first marathon at 67 and is the club champion in the over 80s category at both road/cross country and also at marathon!
I am even considering parkrun on Saturday but that will depend on how much snow we get - the route is by a river and gets very muddy. If it stays dry and crisp like today then I might go but if we have slush then I won't.

Hi everyone, I love reading of all your efforts.

I have had a painful RA flare for a couple of weeks, knees and ankles so have not walked very much at all. I have done my session with my lovely PT at his gym each week though, he is great at adapting things to "the problem of the week:rotfl:) I always feel very fatigued after each session though, but not sure which condition causes this.

Any advice please for best foods for me to eat to counteract the tiredness, I am fairly low carb anyway as gluten intolerant and try to eat only small amounts for GF bread etc. Weight not a problem, after a few years of being underweight I seem to have settled at 8st, height 5'3".

I'm seriously impressed by you maddiemay!

I wish I could suggest a magic cure for your tiredness, I really do. I guess the first thing is to know why it's happening - maybe a trip to the doc for a blood test just to discount any nasties?

I nearly forgot to go to the gym this evening!! Sat down in front of the TV and had a vague feeling there was something I needed to do... Luckily I remembered before it was too late. And it was blummin' cold walking down - I had to warm up before I could warm up!! No snow here (yet), but as a friend of mine used to say, there's a brass monkey over there and he's looking for a welder...

Gym night for me too today, a 4k dog walk too which must help I guess.

Started with weights, arm curls 20 x 100lb each arm, then I go up 20lb and do it again finished today at 20 x 160lb I couldn't face the 180lb arms still stiff a bit from doing that Mon and Tues.

Bike next, I try and do 15 / 16 cals per minute for 20 mins, I managed 320 cals in 20 mins 20 secs today, it showed as 244 watts I think - whatever that means?

Leg weights next, pressing legs out to lift weight, 50 x 69kg then rest and repeat 4 times in total.

50 sit ups then onto the rowing.

2 km row, 9 mins 50 secs, something like 110 cals.

    Another 50 sit ups.

Some chest weights and lower leg weights but only for a couple of minutes - total time 1 hr 20 mins.

The weights I feel I am still improving, the CV stuff I can just about maintain - but heading to 54 yrs old that's the best I can expect.

I've really been consistent with my turbo trainer in January. I've done the equivalent of 750km in the month, most of it inside. Hoping to get to my first cycling event in mid-March fitter than last year.
  • Only got 200km of bike riding in Jan, but the lack of snacking and alcohol has led to a 7.5km loss in weight (1st 2lb 9oz). With dry Jan out of the way I will be treating myself to the odd drink, but will try to stick to 5 dry days a week from now on.

Off to buy some new leg warmers this morning, as attempting a 105km ride tomorrow.

    Welcome, February Fitties!!

The north wind doth blow - and we have got snow! At last!! Nothing here last night, so must have happened in the early hours.

Keep pedalling - it takes a special kind of crazy to still be pedalling in this weather!! I could have done with some leg warmers last night walking down to the gym - my leggings are only 3/4 length. I think my ankles went blue!! I've come to the conclusion that the reason I enjoy the gym so much is because it's indoors ...
