I think it's a boy thing WB
His mates are all the same as they're on their XBox's most of the day talking to him
It's just a modern way of socialising and at least I know where he is.
Just shoes to get now but they're included in the £97. He can be a bit fussy with some things but I found him a pair from SZ last year which were perfect so I've ordered another pair. They're not the most expensive but apart from having to buy a 2nd pair because he grew they were really good and I'm sure would have lasted him the year.
No plans to go to the van this weekend. We've got the little 'un on Saturday and tbh the rubbish weather makes it a bit easier to decide. I'm hoping it'll clear up for a few days before school starts so we can get over there and get some use out of it.
Bet there's loads of frustrated Mums with stir crazy kids this holiday because of the weather.xx

Day 15/31, Prolific 37p cleared, £5.78 outstanding, Spends £41.52
RH: 1392/1500 Shoppix: 2400/3200
Pay Day :j I’ve used £16.91 of the money left from last week and divided it between Savings, Christmas and Experience. It’s a random figure but it rounds the pots up to nice even numbers. The remaining £1.52 I’ve added to my purse. I keep putting DS savings down as £10 when it should be £20 so have changed that.
Savings £45
DS Savings £20
Dogs £45
Hair £10
Caravan £15
Christmas £110
Christmas experience £40
Birthdays £31.84 – I need to take £20 out of here for 2 gifts in a couple of days. I'm glad I set this pot up because in all honesty both birthdays had slipped my mind so having the cash has come in handy.
No plans to do anything much today but at least it's dry for the time being which makes a nice change.
Hope you all have a good day. xx0 -
The purple pens drive me nuts and I still can't get my head around pupils marking each others work. It's not even a 'tick or cross' to wrong or right answers. They have to read what's been written and then write constructive criticism. I'm sure this is just to save the teachers doing it :rotfl: To be fair the comments from his peers are pretty good and quite often better and more in depth than the professionals
xx
Hello from a new reader! I'm a primary teacher and can explain why we (and I was interested to see that secondary schools do it as well) do the peer marking in purple pen. The idea of it is that by reading someone else's work and making the comments, the marker is showing the depth of their own understanding when faced with an answer to a question that may well be set out differently to a 'textbook answer'. It was all new to me when I came into teaching, but I really like it, as it helps me make assessments of 2 children at the same time and see where the knowledge gaps are that need addressing in the next lesson.
Thankfully we don't ask children to provide their own purple pens (yet)! x0 -
Hi Kittikins and welcome
It's always nice to have a new reader pop up to say hello.
I didn't realise primary schools did it as well. I don't recall it happening when mine were there so I wonder if it's a new thing to get them ready for HS.
From a personal point of view I'd have hated handing my work to somebody else in class for them to read and 'mark' but it never bothered DD and doesn't seem to bother DS who is more sensitive about things.
I 100% agree, it can definitely open up new ideas/ways of thinking when you read what somebody else has written and the angle they've come from. And from a teaching point of view I imagine it does help to see if the pupil has a good understanding. I was only joking about the teachers not wanting to do it, although I bet they're secretly glad when it's a 'pupil marking lesson'
Interesting that you also use purple pens. Are you told that's the colour they have to use? I just assumed it was a random choice. I know red was banned a long time ago in favour of green I think? Do me a favour. If anybody ever suggests the children should provide their own purple pens please veto the idea :rotfl: It's a pain in the rear trying to buy them. Much better for school to buy a box and then sell them individually.
Have a lovely day and enjoy your holidays. xx0 -
I think purple is seen as a 'friendly' colour and it stands out more than the, in my school, multiple marking colours!
black - children's handwriting pen
blue - my marking pen
green highlighting pen - something great
yellow highlighting pen - spelling mistake to be corrected
blue highlighting pen - grammar / something wrong!
I think most of us teachers are in it for the stationery
I agree with you on the school buying a box instead! I also would probably have hated other people looking at my work, but I was in primary in the 70s when it was all a bit more rote/dull learning. Children do so much talking about what they're doing and presenting to each other these days, it's amazing how confident they are, and my classes love helping each other out with their purple pens (and the children also do self-assessment with it too).
It doesn't seem to cut down on my marking time though....!!
Well done on the uniform buying, my DD (age 14) seems to have stopped growing pretty much, and somehow her shoes have lasted her 2 years and counting, yay! Such a relief for my bank balance when I've got far more exciting things to spend my money on!! x0 -
Blimey Kittikins, it sounds like there needs to be a whole training module on which pens to use :rotfl: I was also educated in the 70's so I know what you mean. Have to say from what I've seen at HS the respect that teachers and pupils have for each other is really good. There are some cracking teachers out there who go above and beyond - I'm talking phone calls/emails after hours to tell me when one of mine has done something outstanding in class - doesn't happen often mind but when it does I really appreciate it.
My DD didn't grow at all from about age 14 either but think DS has a way to go yet.xx

Day 16/31, Prolific £3.49 cleared, £4.60 outstanding, Spends £36.52
DS’s shoes arrived in store yesterday so I nipped into town to pick them up. Everything is bought now so I can draw a line under his uniform for this year.
While I was there I got £20 cash out of the birthday account. £10 is going in a card and the other £10 went on Raspberry and Hibiscus Gin Liqueur. It's such a pretty colour and I've had to really resist opening it  It was actually £12 but I put £2 of my own money to it. Also bought a cribbage set from The Works. Hubby can play and is going to teach me and DS. It'll be something to pass an hour or two at the van - just in case it rains :rotfl:
So that means birthday pot is down to £11.84 and I’ve spent £5 of my money.
Surveys have been pretty good lately and once everything’s cleared I’ll have made about £15 over the past week or so. Everything made from surveys and shopping points is going into the Experience pot.
Hope you all have a lovely day. xx0 -

I'm going out! Can't remember the last time I went out on a Friday evening :rotfl: Honestly, I think we could be talking years not months  DD has worked some extra shifts this week but they don't need her in tonight so she's at a loose end. I'm getting the train to town in 20 minutes and we're going to meet for a drink and a natter.
Best train home for me is just gone 9.30pm so I'll be home for 10pm so hardly a night on the town but still I'm looking forward to a couple of cheeky cocktails with my girl. xx0
