Thanks Toni
I don't like recommending places either but I'll definitely have a look at that hotel. I've been doing a bit of research and tbh Amsterdam doesn't seem as 'cheap' as I remember when I was last looking to go.
The other thing we need to think about is, do me and hubby go for a couple of nights and leave DS with either my Mum or DD - that's about as much time as I trust them both to show a real interest in keeping him alive :rotfl: Or do we go for longer and take DS with us. Then of course, taking DS means there's DD to consider as I wouldn't want to leave her out :rotfl: Obviously, 25 years down the line, it's more a celebration that we've made it, rather than a weekend of unbridled passion

Sounds like a grand weekend

That sounds really good for your relationship being able to have proper conversations about things. It can be difficult as at home when we're doing chores or getting ready for work or watching tv etc.
Going alone or taking the DC along is a dilemma. It would be more expensive obviously, but if it meant you could go for longer and not worry about DS1 then it might be worth it

Yes, it's definitely a much slower pace at the van and we have more time to talk and discuss any plans we have.
I don't mind taking the DC's, there are things they've expressed an interest in seeing, it's the financial aspect I'm deliberating over  xx0 -
We went to Vilnius in Lithuania in a march for the weekend - loads to do and really cheap. Might be worth a look. We also did the Vilnius card which covered all of our public transport, hop on hop off bus and loads of other things (cost about €40) and was well worth it.Life is a journey - with many stations and diversions.0

Morning GPS
Thanks, we've gone through all the usual destinations but Lithuania is somewhere I'd definitely not thought about. I will have a look later on and do some research. Poland has been discussed and a visit to Auschwitz is something we've wanted to do for a while and we'd definitely take the DC's with us if we went there. But neither of us is sure we want that to be for our silver wedding celebration. xx 0 -
Morning

Day 20/31, Prolific £1.45 cleared, Spends 15th-21st May £30
Plans today are to fill in the next lot of forms regarding the house and to do some housework. So, hopefully a productive, if somewhat boring day.
I haven't spent anything so far this week and with only 2 days to go before I get the next lot of spends it's looking like I'm going to be able to bump the pots up quite a bit for the first time in ages. :j
Thinking ahead to half term, there's £20 in the caravan pot which will definitely get spent, but I don't think we'll need to add much more to our few days away. We're planning to go for 3 nights/4 days but in all honesty DS seems to have outgrown a lot of the things he used to want to do, so our time there is pretty much spent walking and talking.
We rarely even go for coffee. The menfolk see it as nothing more than a 15 minute pit stop where they guzzle a drink and stuff a piece of cake in their mouth before they're ready to go and I refuse to pay £10-£15 for this.
Going out for coffee with them is nothing like going out for coffee with a friend.
Right, best get a move on. Need to download and print a load of paperwork now. What joy.
Hope you all have a lovely day. xx0 -
Have you been to Budapest? That's a fascinating city and it was really cheap compared to others we went to.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0

Morning Toni
No, we've never been to Budapest but it's a city we've discussed along with Prague. It might be our silver wedding but I don't really want to spend ridiculous amounts of money so the financial side of it does come into the equation. I'll add it to my list of cities to investigate.
The DC's are now throwing their ideas into the hat - even though they've not officially been invited yet :rotfl: So far we have Oslo, Paris, New York and Canada (geography a bit off kilter there as we've said Europe

Hope you have a great weekend in the van.
Sorry CG
, your comment slipped through the net. We've driven to Southern Spain several times so driving is another option we could look at. I went to Switzerland when I was in primary with the family and we drove there, staying in Germany a couple of nights. Absolutely loved it. Really, I want to go everywhere which is the problem. If I'd got my heart totally set on one place it would be a lot easier
