MingVase said:I'm doing a basic old style menu plan, using mainly recipes from the wartime cookbooks. Good filling casseroles with plenty of veg, assorted soups, crumbles and sponge puds with custard or semolina. Home baking. Buying in all the ingreds now so that we don't have trouble later on. We do eat plain stuff - this might not work for others though. We eat quite plainly and will be doing more so in the following weeks, as of today I'm now jobless and still no luck finding a new one. I'm planning on hauling out my huge slow cooker to make some stews and soups and filling up the freezer with different portions of things. Definitely feel it's getting to be spicy plum crumble weather and hoping my local fruit market has bowls of plums soon.Daz...feel better soon and get plenty of rest!My preps over the next few weeks include decluttering the house room by room and making an updated cupboard inventory (things have got away from me the last couple of month as been feeling rubbish). It will be a little by little process. I'll also do some baking which will make my DPs work lunch cheaper (I'm sure he'd enjoy pasties and shortbread for a change to sandwiches and salads).

Take it easy Daz. Plenty of rest, plenty of fluids, eat properly, take any medication (you mentioned you are diabetic, so that's important even when you're feeling rubbish). You've had your jabs, so try not to worry too much - latest evidence suggests that they protect against both covid and long covid.
@MingVase - I'm not sure I'm speaking to people who just get bad cold symptoms for 5 days... although I have at least sorted out my referrals and am due to have yet another armful of blood taken (I hope they can find something to put it in).

@greenbee, I've just been speaking to a nurse who developed long Covid after going down with it at the New Year. It's clear it's simply turned her life upside down & left her reeling, not yet able to return to work & not sure if she ever will be able to, as it's affected her memory. She's beginning to feel rather anxious about what happens when the sick pay runs out... When I think of all of you out there going through similar scenarios, with no easy answers in sight, it's very sobering. And raises a lot of questions about the way we have all been living, and whether we should be racing to get back to "normal"...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)17

@thriftwizard - I’m lucky I’ve managed to work throughout as my job isn’t physical and I don’t make life or death decisions. Then again, with no paid sick leave, it wasn’t even an option. I suspect (based on my GP, the LC clinic and the fatigue clinic telling me that working full time isn’t ideal) that it may have delayed my recovery. You’re right about questioning back to normal. I’m trying to fight it, and at least don’t have to travel at the moment, but I’ve just finished work at 11pm having started at 7.30am. There have been some breaks, but I aim to finish around 6, and the late night won’t do me any good. I know I’ve been crashing for hours and just pushing through, so really hope I can get out of bed tomorrow, as I have a 9am appointment that means driving.13

Go steady, Greenbee, try to pace yourself and do tasks in batches with frequent rest breaks. It's unfortunate that your job involves a lot of dealing with people across the Big Pond, so work starts a good six hours at least later than in the U.K., hence the late hours. I don't suppose you could suggest they get up a couple of hours early for an early breakfast meeting? I guess they wouldn't be too keen! One life - your life - live it!13

I'm hoping we get a bit more sun as the grapevine in my garden is laden but because we've had so little sun here in London they look quite small and I'd hoped to be able to make some jelly.
