Havent posted on some of these threads for ages.
Our sin is to have somewhat "over prepped" in stocking up prior to last year's lockdown given the difficulties we expected in shopping for some essential dry goods. As a consequence we have half a dozen boxes of porridge (old fashioned porridge oats) and apart from breakfast meals, am wondering how they can be used in savoury main meals.14 -
I used up a lot of my stash in flapjacks Primrose. With golden syrup, butter, cranberries. sultanas, and even some melted brown sugar or choc on top, they make lovely wee nibbles

Apparently during the war they added oats to mince to bulk it out. It helps to soak the fat if you fry the mince first, before making into Bolognese sauce or cottage pies.2025 Fashion on the ration

I keep meaning to try and replicate a fish dish I had last year - it was a salmon fillet with a oat herb crust - I suppose oats would substitute breadcrumbs in quite a few instances. I found a kilo in the back of the cupboard dated March last year but they look fine so I’m going to be using them even if it is only half a cup at a time in stuffings and crusts. It might be worth looking at recipes seeing if we could all be having a store cupboard Christmas dinner this year 😂😂16

There's a recipe online for porridge bread somewhere...on myfussyeater.com

My family have begun to take an interest in my herbs, as the Christmas sage & onion stuffing is mandatory. The son crooning to the mint got a quick update, mind.
I’m all for a store cupboard Christmas so long as I have a two parents still healthy easter.13
