Serendipitious said:Hoping to grow something this year as the new place has some outside space and I haven't had a garden since 2012. No clue where to start or with what, can't even get a growbag, garden centres closed in Wales and it's just not the time to go driving round to lots of different supermarkets, I hope the local Co-op get some in.

Serendipitious said:Thanks Thrifty, no milkman sadly, but my DD says B&Q are still open so we will try a C&C between us soon, so that looks a bit more hopeful now. I must try tomatoes if nothing else, I use loads of those...2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

We're not needing to use the pub box at the moment as it's a lot easier (well has been for a few months at least) to get supermarket slots and the pub landlord only does a limited number of boxes a couple of days a week so it's fairer to leave them for other people as we're OK at the moment. It's a big box with bread, milk, eggs, veg, fruit, pasta, tea, sometimes cheese, sometimes crackers but enough for the basics for a couple for most of the week. It's a really good scheme for the village and keeps him ticking over while he can't open.14

boazu said:I've got a big sack of home grown potatoes, strings of home grown onions, freezer full of home grown tomatoes, green beans, broad beans, raspberries, plums, a newly harvested bag of parsnips, beetroot, leeks and cabbage from the allotment, a cupboard full of home made jams, jellies, chutneys and pickles, a cupboard full of dehydrated home grown fruit and vegetables and standing crops of kale, leeks, parsnips, carrots and cabbages still to be harvested on the allotment. Fresh herbs in the garden and jars of dehydrated herbs in the cupboard I've been busy during 2020 and now we reap the benefits.
I too have a freezer full of runner beans, peas, French beans, apples, fruit etc plus bottles of toms, home made tom sauce, pickles, jams etc etc Plus rabbit, pigeon, pheasant and partridge either home shot or freebies from people who shoot. I also have home grown lamb, which we have eaten our way through quite spectacularly!! I have left my potatoes in the ground as I find they store quite well there. I dug some up for yesterdays dinner and they were totally fine, no frost or blight damage. OH used to grow them commercially and said that often they would leave the crop in the ground until Christmas as they cost so much to store. I have taken my eye off the ball and the bloody rabbits have managed to break into my garden and devour any brassicas and veg that were left, except leeks! I am ok with this as I have harvested most things although well annoyed they have munched all my parsley!
Yesterday I listed all my in date seeds so I did not end up buying duplicates. I really only need to buy seed potatoes, sweetcorn, winter squash and any interesting things I want to try out. My sister gets me Grow your own mag which comes with about 8 packets of seeds each issue. I am out of courgette seeds but no doubt I will get a packet in an issue soon. This year I am going to try a chaos bed. Basically throw any old or out of date seeds in there and see what grows. I have some seeds that are years out of date in the shed so I am going to rake over an area , fling seeds and then rake again. It will be an interesting experiment.

got my result back, it's positive for C19, glad I have prepared for this to a point, I have plenty of soup and easy meals in, enough meds and painkillers for at least 2 weeks, and a meds order due to be collected( my neighbor will collect and drop outside for me) the only thing I wish I had was something really fresh tasting to combat the horrid smell in my nose. wish I have brought some tinned grapefruit or something..today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.
