Well, it looks like folks listened to Boris last night saying don't worry about food supplies and immediately decided to hit the local Morrisons at 7am today. About 50 in the queue in front of me and 40 or so behind when the doors opened and carpark a third full. No long life stuff on the shelves, no tinned veg, no eggs, and so on, and not much choice of what they did have! When I left at quarter past, the carpark was about 3/4 full ...

Waitrose here still looks like it's WW2 food levels. There has been no wholemeal bread flour for over a week, and they don't know when they'll be getting any. I just bought the last packs of tea, and my particular porridge. They have some loo rolls, but I have plenty here already.I noticed a queue to get in Boots (presumably for prescriptions) going to the door of supermarket next door.9

A thought occurred to me: for all our prepping, who'd have thought that when the Apocalypse finally got here, the Zombie Hordes would be pushing supermarket trolleys? Not quite what even the most rabid bu88er-out would have expected... ;-)Angie - GC Aug25: £478.51/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)13

So if you pick 10 till 2, your order could be 10 - 11 or the 1 - 2 slot, after all if you have to stay in all day the 4 hour slot is an option. hth.9 -
just went and checked our tesco online no slots available for the next 3 weeks but I will check every night at midnight as that's when they add the next days free ones. I have to do this every December for my Christmas shop until I get lucky and grab a slot and then look out for cancellations to swap to if a better date comes up8

So OK ... apparently the supermarkets are going to prioritise home deliveries for the elderly. Nice idea, but have any of them explained how on earth they're going to make that work?

On the day of my Sainsbobs delivery, I get an email re any changes. It's only then that my account is debited in accordance with the new amount. When it arrives, I can reject any substitutions or items too close to the use by date. I subsequently get an online voucher to use against the next delivery.Changes today - only one pack of bread flour not two, one tin of cannellini beans not two, no paracetamol (surprise surprise), no loo roll, anti bacterial mould spray sent instead of bleach, no tinned spam, no frankfurters - and no gluten free chocolate brownies.9

I've been ordering online from Sainsbury for a few years, never had any problems as I order mainly basic, heavy items I struggle to carry. Today's delivery, ordered 10 days ago, will be missing UHT milk, TP, tomatoes, pasta. Hope I will be able to register for priority delivery as they appear to be promising, otherwise I will find it impossible to 'social isolate' as requested by the government. Will need to forage round supermarkets in local towns for basics.
At present, words fail me in describing the chaos around food shopping. Are some people stocking up to re-sell in a future black market?11 -
