With the substitutes tick box, there is also a box under each individual product on the check out page which you can type in, so for example on my order I leave pretty much everything as ok to substitute as would rather have something turn up than nothing but in the box I type "long date if possible please as for toddlers" (on the milk etc) and if your not happy with the substitute you can just hand it back to the driver for a refund. 
Where we are, i've never not known there to be slots free so this is new to me.  I would keep an eye and see if any are free'd up. I have booked 3 slots for the future but may not require 1 of them if everything arrives on the other 2 and I can simply cancel it, I am also doing online shopping for my parents.

Sorry I didn't answer this correctly before I do apologise I misread your post 😊 It's always worth checking for slots several times a day when you really need one as sometimes people cancel at the last minute so their slot becomes free again.We do this at Christmas because it's hard for  us to get one in this first place, as shoppers paying delivery saver get first chance. We book what we can nearest to Christmas as they fill up quickly then keep checking for free slots closer to or on our preferred date

ADHD and chronic fatigue don’t mix! 

I was anxious on Sunday but focused on the garden then was in too much to pain to sleep, so hit town yesterday morning very, very early. Got home just after lunch and crashed for 12 hours!

Viv a vis toilet paper! I am such a moron! 😂 I use a Sitz bath from Argos because I have a minor recurring problem that makes using TP too rough. The other advantage is that since getting it, I haven’t needed a personal carer. 

We never need to speak of this again 😔

Update from Sajnsburys via email this morning:

A number of you suggested that we reserve an hour in stores for elderly and vulnerable customers. In response to this request, we will set aside the first hour in every supermarket this Thursday 19th March, for elderly and vulnerable customers. I hope that you can respect this decision and will work with us as we try our best to help those that need it the most. If you or an elderly family member, friend or neighbour would like to shop during this hour, please check online for your local supermarket opening hours.

We will also help elderly and vulnerable customers access food online. From Monday 23rd March, our online customers who are over 70 years of age or have a disability will have priority access to online delivery slots. We will contact these customers in the coming days with more details.

For any online customer who can travel to our stores, from Monday 23rd March, we will operate an expanded 'click and collect' service. We are significantly increasing the number of collection sites across the country over the coming days in preparation for this. Customers can place their order online as usual and pick it up from a collection point in the store car park. We believe this will also work for people who are self-isolating.

As we work to feed the nation, we are also focusing all of our efforts on getting as much food and other essential items from our suppliers, into our warehouses and onto shelves as we possibly can. We still have enough food for everyone - if we all just buy what we need for us and our families.

To help us get more essential items onto the shelves, from this Thursday 19th March, we will be closing our cafes and our meat, fish and pizza counters in supermarkets. This means we can free up warehouse and lorry capacity for products that customers really need. It will also free up time for our store colleagues to focus on keeping the shelves as well stocked as possible.

I mentioned last week that we had put limits on a very small number of products. Following feedback from our customers and from our store colleagues, we have decided to put restrictions on a larger number of products. From tomorrow, Wednesday 18th March, customers will be able to buy a maximum of three of any grocery product and a maximum of two on the most popular products including toilet paper, soap and UHT milk. We have enough food coming into the system, but are limiting sales so that it stays on shelves for longer and can be bought by a larger numbers of customers.

This is going to be fun.  My elderly mother who has vascular dementia lives with us.  I have had to online shop for quite a while since I can't leave her long enough to do a "real shop".  She is also vegan, which adds interest to the situation.  If I can't get what I need online I'll have to go shopping, thus putting her at severe risk.  If I get ill, there is no-one else to look after her. I imagine many more are in awkward circumstances too.

Another thing you can do is click the variable time slot button on the Tesco on line, some times there is a couple of free one's if all the one hour slot's are gone, just pick your 4 hour window, do your order, the morning of the order you get a text message telling you the hour your order will come in.
So if you pick 10 till 2, your order could be 10 - 11 or the 1 - 2 slot, after all if you have to stay in all day the 4 hour slot is an option. hth.

Jamanda, I hope that some sort of solution presents itself to you.  Unless people have been in situations like yours, they may not think of them.  I know that when somebody from the germ factory called me yesterday, she hadn't an answer when I asked about those of us who live with vulnerable people or with out own underlying health conditions.  They might think about it if enough people ask?
