Just watched a late lunchtime news to get the latest on the coronavirus situation and its status has been upped to moderate in most countries that have cases. The newsreader implied that if it becomes more widespread there is the likelihood of it being declared a Pandemic and we'll all I suspect be living under much stricter and tighter supervision and rules if it is. It's concerning that the numbers increase with such speed from day to day and there is no real advice that I can see for avoiding it except hand washing frequently and thoroughly. We'll have to play the waiting game and see where it all goes and how quickly won't we?8

I'm off on a two week work trip tomorrow that thankfully only involves 4 flights and two hotels. It will, however, involve public transport, taxis and sharing space with conference audiences. I've got alcohol wipes (>70%) for cleaning the plane and hotel, tea tree oil wipes (for cleaning me, in addition to washing hands), tea tree oil balm, zinc spray for my nose, vit C and zinc tablets to suck in public, and a cotton scarf that I can use to cover my mouth. Comparing notes with others who are still having to travel, it seems we're all taking roughly the same precautions so hopefully they will work. I've also got my usual supply of meal replacement protein bars/powder, water bottle and vitamin pills to ensure I stay as healthy as possible.11

Just popped in after a break with the forum - anyone prepping for the virus coming - with stockpiling tins and water etc.
Also have you ordered masks and googles while they are still in stock?
The Italian lock downs came on very quickly.

Wryly amused to see someone's coining it amidst the anxiety but observe he's a Mormon for whom this was part of his childhood. Plus the meals are for 8-10 at a time which is frankly a sneaky way of saving on packaging...7

I've stocked up on a few face masks and the gloves too. Thanks to advice here and on the Brexit thread, we are stocked up well enough to manage for a while if necessary. Some of us in the family might fall in to the at risk groups, so caution will be required.
I work in a bit of a germ factory though! Due to workplace rules on the cleaners' detergents, rather than the cleaners themselves as they're great, I will be making more of an effort myself to keep surfaces clean in the places I spend most time in.11 -
if this self isolation is to happen my family will be press-ganged into an at least month long session of Mah Jongg. That might not be very isolating - me & mine can be with you within a couple of days! Sounds like excellent fun to me, and the girls are always up for Mah-Jongg & tea, & lots of it... just don't play Dobble with DD2 if you value your fingers & eardrums.
Have now spotted several people trotting around our little semi-rural town wearing masks. I don't think there have been any cases within a hundred miles of here, so that seems a bit OTT. However, DS3, who lives 30 miles away, works mostly with Chinese students, many of whom did go home for the New Year...Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)10 -
Haven't spotted a single face mask in my city, although we have a university with a fair few Chinese students. The thought which concerns me is that many people will not have two weesks' worth of food at home, so what's the plan for them if they're ordered to self-quarantine? One last grocery run before hunkering down? Delivered provisions, in which case a delivery person from a supermaket chain is at risk and unwittingly becomes a vector of disease? I shall be adding a few more cans to the stash this week.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
