Glad for the prepping mentality. DD started with a fever yesterday (otherwise ok), so I thought 'mmmm, I'll pop out now and get extra calpol and calprofen in case it gets worse so I dont have to go out in storm'. That proved worthwhile. It spiked not long after she went to bed, we called 111, advise was to monitor regularly, give calpol etc. Wasnt too bad when I went to bed. Stirred at 3am and that voice in my head said to check on her. 39.5!! That voice in my head, and the stores we had of basic medicine meant we were able to monitor it and keep it under control without needing to go out in the worst of it. Thankfully seems to be a bit better today.February wins: Theatre tickets13

Poor little pickle, well done on being on the ball and getting what you needed before you needed it. Hope she's improving and more comfortable today and that you are slightly less worried about her too xxx.
I think that sums up prepping in general for me in that thinking ahead and actually getting what you need to see you through any situation that's hovering in the background before you need it urgently makes way more sense than leaving it to the last minute and having to do it in haste.

What with the storm, my girls (24 & 27) have been fretting about the possibility of the power going out & not being able to make tea! To be fair, the supply is clearly wavering about all over the place & it's fairly ferociously windy down here. Anyway, one of them has solemnly filled a vacuum flask with hot water (the stove's lit & there's a kettle that fits on there perfectly) & they're discussing how to "survive" if the lights go out... Bless 'em, they're on the right lines, but I'm trying very hard not to laugh; clearly they've never noticed the lanterns & candles scenically dotted about, the hob that can be lit with a match (of which we have plenty, and alternatives) the assorted camping equipment in the shed, the lined curtains, quilts & blankets etc. to keep the cold out, and the "Armageddon Cupboard" that I rotate supplies in & out of! Plus they've grown up playing board & card games; I think they do stand half a chance of surviving an hour or two without 'leccy!Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)18

Nothing much has happened here, luckily. It's windy and rainy, but it hasn't really been any different than previous storms. Still, I wouldn't go out unless necessary as lots of trees felled due to the grown having been so sodden beforehand.February wins: Theatre tickets13 -
Morning, how's the small one this morning Euronorris? hope you had a reasonable night and that she's bouncing again.
Matt Hancock has declared the coronavirus a 'Danger to Public Health' this morning which according to the news means rather more robust measures in place for isolation and observation of suspected contacts and known victims of the virus. It seems a sensible thing to do after reports of another 97 deaths in China bringing the total for this outbreak up to almost 1,000 and eclipsing the total number for SARS.

Morning Mrs LW. Morning All!
Little one seems OK this morning. Temp was stable overnight, but she was very sweaty (so I suspect her little body was doing it's job at keeping her cool). It is back up again this morning. She seems fine, but did complain of a sore throat, so maybe the other symptoms are about to show and make themselves known. She is at home with Daddy today, so she is in good hands. None of us slept well thanks to noisy wind and the neighbours putting their recycling out last night (!!), so it rattled around and around outside noisily for most of the night. Grrrr!!
Yes, I have seen the update about Coronavirus. Seems they are finally accepting that it's only a matter of when, rather than if, that we start to see quite a lot more cases.

Hello, I have been following this thread for a long time and have been grateful for all the advice and information shared. Currently going through the cupboards and medical kit to get a handle on everything I have before doing an extra shop to fill the gaps. As others have said I would like to be in the position where I could stay in the house for a few weeks quite comfortably without having to go out.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!11

4 more cases confirmed in Brighton. All linked to the original case of the guy who flew back from Singapore, and stopped off at the chalet in the French Alps. I suspect that has something to do with the government's decision to declare it an 'imminent threat'.
