I do always have a good stock of everything but I am now stocked up to seige level and can make a nourishing but boring soup daily for a very long time. My dd is a bit minimalist and although in the medical profession is not a stocker, apart from a box full in her dining room. Hence I have stocked up for me and for them, although they don`t know it. All it would take is a phone call and I can provide sustenance and more via a bag on her doorstep. I would say that she is more likely than most, seeing many patients but not as far as I know, any chinese, however her health and age group put her and her family into a safer bracket than me6

Early training of living in a rural village with no shop, which could be snowed in for 4 week's every winter as a young 'un, mean's full cupboard's are a normal state for me.£71.93/ £180.008

I could feed us both easily for a couple of months at least from the cupboards and freezer but we'd suffer from no veg....at least until June or July anyway...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi9

Well on my 7th day of isolation, I now know exactly what's in my freezer and what's hidden away in the spare room, and think I could survive a couple of months if I had to. A friend left a carton of fresh milk at my back door yesterday, but I'd have used up the UHT supplies if she hadn't. I write the use by dates very prominently on everything stored away and am reasonably good at using things up in the right order. What this last week has made me realise is that I need to tweak my prepping habits a bit. I mean, I have a reasonable quantity of tinned fruit but have gone rather overboard with grapefruit. When I'm able to restock, I'll be making sure I have a lot more variety. And I'd been just about to get potatoes when this started and have been hoarding the one baking potato I have left. I wish I had a few tins in the cupboard. I don't like tinned potatoes per se, but they're fine used in other things like frittata or potato scones. And I wish I had in-date yeast. I know from past experience that using out of date yeast can be a disaster, but I'm going to try today.9

If it's not to far past it's use by date the yeast will be OK Airthrey, and if the friend is bringing more milk at the weekend could you phone them and ask for some potatoes to be added?
Good job you've got the supplies in and able to notice gap's that need filling for when you can go out shopping.£71.93/ £180.009 -
It's a useful thing to have to actually use your reserves for real and see just what you need to tweak in the future but I so wish it hadn't happened for you Airthrey though it is an object lesson for the rest of us to see what your conclusions are at the end of it and how you will do things in the future. I always keep in packets of Mr. Mash instant potato as it's the only one we actually find acceptable in flavour and texture and it makes the base for some tasty if unorthodox meals when it's mixed with storecupboard staples like ketchup, baked beans and ready grated parmesan/non fridge cheese triangles and then sprinkled with ready done crispy onions. Standard camping fare from the past and can be dressed up with tinned ham chunks, chopped hotdog sausages, tinned tuna etc. for a substantial main hot meal. I also make stew with tinned stewed steak in gravy, tinned carrots, peas and potatoes and a couple of oxo cubes along with an oxtail cuppa soup. Both surprisingly good!8

Reasons are indeed many and varied MrsLW. Mine have definitely been fuelled by recent world events, but they were shaped over many years by various incidents that opened my eyes to the necessity: stomach bug and running out of loo roll! Being snowed in. One of us being very poorly. Money being very tight at the end of a month due to unexpected bill.
Plus, I am my Mother's daughter. So I have a well stocked medicine cupboard, as that is what I grew up with. Paracetemol, ibuprofen, antacids, rehydration sachets, burn cream, burn plasters, normal plasters, anti sickness tablets, throat sweets, decongestants, cough medicine, etc etc.
Most recently purchased a new thermometer. I have long since suspected that the digital one I purchased when DD was a baby was inaccurate. Always seemed to give the same reason. She recently had a vomiting bug and was sooo hot. It still read 36.6! So we purchased a new one. Actually 38.1! It is a much better thermometer!
I do need to top up a few things. one of which is tomato puree. Though I still have some toms frozen from last year, so I could sort those out Fri night/Sat morning (DD going to MILs for the night).February wins: Theatre tickets9 -
Anybody in Scotland or the north, check out the weather forecasts for the weekend. Storm Ciara.10

Not sure about this new website. Every time I want to look at a new thread I have to go back to the 'Forum' menu, and endlessly scroll down.10

Well I've had to go undercover as a vase again because it wouldn't let me in as me. But I'm here so that's ok.
