Airthrey it would be risk free if someone else could get you fresh milk and leave it on your doorstep for you to collect.

  • Thank you Mrs Lurcherwalker. I did wonder initially whether I was overreacting but on Friday morning I had to make a quick decision as to whether to attend a group I help out at and I remembered one of the ladies has a chronic respiratory condition and realised I shouldn't go anywhere near her. And my mum has multiple health issues. After that, it just seemed the responsible thing to do. You're right about the milk. I can ask a friend who lives nearby to leave some milk in the garden for me. And I'm not totally housebound. I'm fortunate enough to live in a place where I can get out for a walk and not go near anyone else.
  • if it is so mild, like cold or flu then why is there such worldwide action? I think we are not being told the whole story, how viruses inhabit cells and use those cells to multiply etc Oldies and babies are most at risk and of course the poorly and compromised. I fully intend to stay away from buses right now and to wear my gloves when supermarket shopping. I am ready to withdraw at the drop of a hat, have enough in my house now so I can stay put and of course go on solitary outings. It does seem that we should always be prepped, I was running stuff down and have gone back up to full scale stuffed cupboards

As someone on immune suppressant drugs with the double whammy of a respiratory condition, I'm grateful to those who are taking precautions. So feel free to 'over react'!

Some expert (there have been so many :() on TV said that the virus can survive on surfaces as long as 72 hours - so you simply don't know what's on your supermarket trolley handle etc . Me I'm going to start wearing gloves when out. A local shop has some unobstrusive 'touchscreen gloves' at £1 a pair - so I can afford to stock up. :)

Well, I'm very glad at the moment that I'm a prepper. I'm currently on day 3 of self-imposed self-isolation after being exposed at quite close quarters to several people who returned from mainland China last Thursday. I think the risk is very small but it is real and I'd hate to be the cause of this thing spreading.:)
Exactly right, Airthrey, small but real. Good for you. Are they doing the same, self isolating?

  • Hi Karmacat, yes they are. And as far as I can gather, none of their employers wants them back at work on Monday.
  • Cup runneth over time folks, reports of an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu killing 4,500 chickens in a city 300miles SW of Wuhan, it's not easy for it to transfer to humans but it can, there is record of humans with H5N1, goodness me, those interesting times just got even more 'interesting'!
