  • Interesting occurrence here, I decided to check and spring clean my prepping cupboard, bring to the front stuff nearing use by date, list and replace anything running low etc. DH who has always been sceptical of my prepping came to offer advice (aahh) and suggestions, even recipe for spam fritters which he reckon s he enjoyed as a boy. (I thought he hadn't noticed the tins of spam). Because of danger of flu or virus he informs me.

News stories showing empty streets and difficulties shopping in Wuhan seem to be having effect. Just pray it all works and they manage to avoid worse infection spread.

Battered spam - ah the memories! Must be one of the unhealthiest foods on the planet but I'm sometimes tempted....

I just see it as congealed fatty meat packed with delicious heart stopping sodium. But not half as delicious as compressed pork/ham gunk with tasty additives, sliced and fried in a crispy fatty batter. Mmmm.... :spam:

  • Prepping is a choice isn't it? no one makes any of us feel the need to prep it comes from inside us and is for many different reasons. We all choose to stock different items, things we feel will be useful in situations that suspend normal everyday life and make us unable to get out and about as we normally do. To me it makes sense and to many of you it does too and with the advent of illnesses like the new coronavirus lurking in the background it makes even more sense to have stores enough to not have to go out and mix with other people. It's a choice and many think we're strange for making the choice to prepare but to me it's a necessity.

Well, I'm very glad at the moment that I'm a prepper. I'm currently on day 3 of self-imposed self-isolation after being exposed at quite close quarters to several people who returned from mainland China last Thursday. I think the risk is very small but it is real and I'd hate to be the cause of this thing spreading. Unsurprisingly, my daughter's employer has told her not to return to work next week. I'm semi-retired so it's been quite easy for me to cancel everything for a fortnight and other family members are taking up the slack with visiting and helping out with my very elderly and frail mum.

It turns out that my prepping (lots of foodstuffs and things like loo rolls stashed away in the spare room) is a Good Thing. The freezer is pretty full too, and I should be able to survive comfortably for the 2 weeks without having to get anything else in. I'll run out of fresh milk and fruit by Tuesday, but I have UHT milk in the stores and plenty of tinned fruit. I may be bored but I won't have to ask anyone to leave me food parcels at the door and I won't starve. As a bonus, I may be able to empty the freezer and stores enough to do a proper inventory of what's left. I may even end up with a tidy and decluttered house.:rotfl:
  • Airthrey it would be risk free if someone else could get you fresh milk and leave it on your doorstep for you to collect. You and they would not have to make physical contact nor would they have to touch your front door, they could even leave it in your front garden (if you have one) for you to collect and then you'd not have to deplete your UHT stores and hopefully you will all be absolutely fine after your very sensible period of self-isolation. It's a selfless thing you're doing and I admire very much your decision and implementation of it, you're a good citizen, a good person.
