I confess that I've not actually ever signed up to one of these, but I like the idea!

Mrs Frugalwoods may not be your cup of tea. But then, not everyone like mrmoneymoustache either. So have a read and pick out what could work for you.

Woke up this morning feeling rubbish so have spent most of the day in bed. I have so much to do cleaning, etc and I have some things to deliver to my cousin. I really hope that resting today has had the desired effect and I can get on with things tomorrow.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

CCL - good to hear your news.

Today was the kids last day at school but they didn't go. It was tipping down with rain this morning and they would have had to get the bus there and 2 buses back which would cost me £5 for 3 hours of doing nothing so I phoned and said they were sick. I think they should stick to a full day or finish an hour earlier like they used to. I worked till lunch then battled through the unbelievable traffic to get home, make the kids and myself some lunch then DD and me went into our little nearby town. We parked further away and walked as it has been manic there all week.

I spent some money in the charity shops whilst there and bought another loaf as one of the ones delivered yesterday has all but gone.

DH got paid earlier this week and the money has been transferred to another savings pot until his actual pay day, I got paid today and that has been transferred to our home improvements pot.

Lots of chocolates and biscuits arriving at work today, normally I don't have any but there was a Fry's selection box type thing and two of the bars in there are vegan so I brought one of them home for later.

Pizza night for DH and the kids and a hm vegan shepherds pie from the freezer for me, then a dog walk, pj's and a glass of red wine.

mothernerd - Boyes is good for chocolate brazils and that type of thing if you have one nearby.

  • Evening everyone
School is OUT! Hooray :j I am so relieved to have survived. It was quite nice today as well, there was a quiz and a couple of competitions, so the time went by quite quickly and it was time to go home before I knew it.
Quite a mse day as well - breakfast was provided by the Head (bacon sarnies for everyone), and there were loads of party food leftovers that I brought home for me and the kids.
Got home and managed to finish my wrapping before I had to get ds from school. Now I'm putting my feet up and enjoying a glass of fizz (I don't care how early it is). I'm going to catch up on here and read frugalwoods and see what I think.
    Today's gratitudes:
Finishing at work for 2 weeks
    Finishing my present wrapping
Getting out for a walk in the daylight
    Switching my alarm off :j

apple muncher - I have signed up for the uber frugal January challenge. See how it goes.
Was a spend day. Had to pay some cash towards the Christmas food shop and a few items for Sunday at my favourite shop. Not going to get stressed about. If I need to get anything extra for when my sister comes down to visit on Sunday I will use my points on loyalty at a local shop.
    Finished my temp job today.
Did not walk much apart from around the shop and making tea in school.
    Lit candle.
    Grateful for:
    M&S.
Got email to say I won a competition for an eco friendly living board game.
    Finishing work at 1pm.
    Chilling out this evening.

I've read quite a lot of her stuff, but I've never signed up for a challenge - but a MFWer put the first questions on her diary thread, and it was amazing, so I've signed up too.

    Gratitudes:
    - my neighbour has loaned me his green bin for a second week, so I'm massively advanced in getting rid of the overgrown laurel.
    - I've started to plan my new kitchen, and lots of mse people have been helping me on my diary thread.
    - Christmas presents: I think my sister and I are going to share a meal somewhere; my brother needs vouchers at a DIY store; and I've done the rest, in one swoop at Waitrose. Still got to wrap everything, but compared to the horrors of the shops, thats fine.

l've signed up to the frugal woods challenge too. Busy day. Small shop for mum then taxi there with Beloved at 20 to 11am. (Beloved was having her hair trimmed by mum's hairdresser).

Someone at the door -mum's lodger, his daughter and her 11 week old baby. Lodger got roped in for the attic climb, I was sent across the road to borrow steps - they were only the same size as mum's but had a squared off handle (mum's is round). Lodger ended up standing on the handle and passing things down to me. Hairdresser was trying to get in while the very small hallway had me, the lodger, the steps, 2 trees, 2 large boxes, several small boxes and the door to the attic (I had things balanced against my legs, the radiator, the door).

Shoved stuff around, lodger took steps back, hairdresser did Beloved and mum, everyone played with the baby, Beloved and I took the trees into the bedroom for assembly. Most people left. I put the turkey crown in to cook, fed mum, Beloved did the bauble tree, I tied cards onto the other (could only do a few at a time). No taxis so took Beloved to find the little bus (there aren't any bus stop signs).

Fed myself, took out the turkey and left it to cool, set up the crib, set up the reindeer/bambi display, shuffled stuff around in cupboards, ordered my taxi 3 hours before I needed it, sliced turkey. With lots of resting and reading in between.

Home now and not planning on doing anything for a while.

Today I am grateful for someone other than me sorting the attic, for having enough, for there being lots of food (planning a nice gentle week next week), for other people helping.

I have signed up for UFJ myself now.:T
Today I am grateful for doing a good shop with dh straight after the morning sch run (it was well busy, so glad not to have left it for later), for stocking up on gf/df foods, for both of us deciding that chicken breast is plenty good enough for us for Cmas day after seeing the prices for turkey and whole chickens, for finishing a friend's hat ready for tomorrow, for doing a workout and my shoulder exercises, for dd enjoying the last day of term, for WSM repeats (fmess, where are you???), for twinkly lights, for dd still loving playing with her dolls house.

Hi everyone...I am sorry I've been missing. A busy period with lots of travelling about, poorly babies, over time & general exhaustion. I have been reading along as & when I can.I am now finished until January 2nd and so grateful for the break.

Nursery casually decided to change how I am invoiced with 0 hours notice  Meaning that my bill was a lot more than I'd budgeted for, so my Christmas bonus has been sucked up to make ends meet. I am caught between being relieved I got it & a little bit disheartened as the childcare nightmare never seems to end. :( Anyway the end result is that I have only 160 quid for January. Luckily I've a fairly big stock pile of food & all my bills, commitments, savings are sorted. I have put my name down for SFJ so thanks for the recommendation.

Me & my son took a gift to the local food bank, we chose a label for a boy age 2-3 (I always chose the nearest to my children's age).

my sons school (he isnt due to start until September) sent him a jumper & bag for when he starts , I thought it a really lovely Chrismas gift, I will need to buy more but it will certainly help.

I bought a new budget dairy (I appreciate the irony) for January to help me track what I spend :j

Not much else to report,I promise I'll do better going forward:money:
