That is what I love about Disney! I have been going now for over 20 years, when Kissimmee was a backwater! And I have never heard of this, or we would have been.

Couldn't agree more atro1 - I've spent a total of over a year in Disneyworld, and still keep finding new bits that I didn't know about. We only recently found out they had their own nature reserve south of Kissimmee where you can go and be away from the crowds.

    Anyone tried it yet?

Just curious, are there any other Disney Vacation Club members on here?

I oh so wish there had been a board like this when we first went in the 80's.
But then when we first went in Spaceship Earth Epcot the internet was a thing of the future.!!!!!

You beat me by a decade atro1, went for the first time in 1991. Back in the days of Delta Dream Flight and Horizons. But if they ever get rid of the WedWay (sorry, Tomorrowland Transit Authority) I will sulk forever...

Oh yes! And they let you stay on and go round again. Not many Disney rides you can say that about.

Hi. I have decided to go to Florida (orlando) next month. I have sat down and am preparing myself to read this massive thread.

Can anyone answer me a couple of questions.

Do you know of any cheap last minute apartment/villa/hotels? There is only me and my 11 year old daughter going so it does not have to be massive.

Does anyone know where I can get a car from. I do NOT have a credit card, just a debit card. I have been before (ages ago, I worked there) and seem to remember it being nigh on impossible to get a car without a c/c.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Dazco

What would you prefer out of hotel /villa / condo? Which area?

Do you want to be within walking distance of eateries and entertainment or are you happy to drive?

Sorry to answer your questions with more questions :) You won't find it hard to get accommodation as there is a lot of it out there!

Websites I have found good to book through:

    www.hotels.co.uk
    www.hotelopia.co.uk

I got a really nice 3 bedroom apartment in Lake Buena Vista for £34 a night in August, just to give you an example of what you can get. There were a number of cheaper hotels eg Howard Johnson, Quality Inn chains, for under £20 per room per night.

You can definitely get a car without a credit card as I know of people that have done it, but as I've not done it myself hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will answer that.

    HTH

Is it for Disney hotel residents only or can anyone go?

    Anyone can go :)

It's at Fort Wilderness which is in the Magic Kingdom Resort area.

I was, but sold a year ago to help pay for Stamp Duty when we moved house :( Hope to buy again in about three years' time when I hope to have saved enough. Are you a DVC Member? Which resort?

I am not so sure Karen LOL

I think i would be happy in an apartment/villa if it was in a resort or a nice hotel near everything. I do like to have a drink at night, but i seem to remember the parks shut quite late.

GRRRRRR I just dont know. If i am on i-drive, would I get away with not having a car?

I reckon I Drive is the best place to be if you want to not hire a car. I would choose a hotel with a free shuttle to Disney, though. It is do-able to get to WDW from I Drive without a shuttle but the shuttle would make life easier. ETA Though the shuttle means you are restricted to their times, not yours and might mean you miss the later fireworks shows / Fantasmic etc.

I've always hired a car or stayed onsite at Disney so I'm not the best person to ask for how to do Orlando without a car, but lots of people do it.

About as much help as a chocolate teapot there, sorry :o
