For the first time in years, we're taking Travellers cheques on hols with us. Got them at $2.07 back in November. Is it still possible just to still use them as cash, anyone had any problems with them inside the theme parks or anyone else. Many thanks in advance.:j

    Great rate, well done!

Yes, they are still accepted everywhere* and are like cash. In theory you should have ID when you cash / use them but I almost never get asked; if I am I whip out my photocard driving licence :)

We like to pay for something early in the day with a TC and then use the change as spends, repeating the same process daily. Obviously it's not appreciated if you use a big bill and expect them to have lots of change too early in the day though at some locations.

*except for a particular location of Golden Corral but I can't remember which one.

Cheapest way into Disney is to sign up for a timeshare spiel when youre there, from roadside booth.

Thanks froggitt. Haven't I seen you on Moneybag or somewhere like that?

Nice Shoes & Expensive Designer Handbags, are my downfall!
  • Sorry
Already posted this in another section (not too good at this computing lark!) I'm looking to hire a car for 2/3 weeks in April but I don't have a credit card, which looking at the procedures for hiring would seem to be almost essential.Anybody know of a way around this and any idea of costs for cash deposits would be appreciated.

I have been to Orlando 3 times and thought I would pass on any help if I can.

Safety - I am a single parent and go on my own with my child and have never had any problems there. People really friendly and helpful. Feel safer there than going to Spain etc.

Transport - You do not need a car! I have never used a car there and never will even though I can drive. Buses are really cheap and you can get to Disney, Seaworld, Universal, Busch Gardens etc on them no probs. Taxis are fine as well but watch out as you can get caught out when traffic is busy (which it is most of the time).

Hotels - Good standard. Most are room only but that is all you need. A 3 star there is like a 4 star in Spain I think anyway. Nice and spacious. Disney budget hotels are good and have that little bit extra - themed rooms, pools etc and the best bit extra magic hours for guests. These hours are great especially if you go when its the busy season.

Best time to go - I have been in July, August and October and for me October is best. Weather is great then as you can get some really bad downpours in the summer (never seen anything like it!) and it can be really busy.

Shopping - Shoppers Paradise! Problem is fitting it all in your case. Hint take empty cases with you 1 inside the other!

Eating - Lots of choice and cheap. Expect to put on weight!

Tickets - buy before you go.

Money - I take all cash and put it in the room safe. That way I can budget day to day and money is there already. However have always brought back home money as so cheap.

Excursions - Went to see Orlando Magic (great) and Kennedy Space Centre (interesting)

Disney - My favourite! Great for the little and not so little kids.
Magic Kingdom - everything you expect and more. All the classics - Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Slash Mountain etc. Wishes fireworks spectacular, Monsters inc laugh floor and Mickey's PhilharMagic a must!
MGM - All about the movies and see all your favourite characters. Star Tours (Star Wars Simulator), Backlot tour, The Muppets etc. A great show to see is Lights Camera Action which is a live show with stunt cars and motorcycles and of course Fantasmic! And for the kids - High School Musical.
Epcot - Go around the world in a day. Visit all the places and sample their foods. yummy! Test track, Soarin and Mission Space a must!
Animal Kingdom - Great for seeing the animals roaming free on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride that takes you through. Expedition everest and It'd tough to be a bug. A more relaxed day out!
Typhoon Lagoon - A tropical paradise! You can laze the day away under a palm tree or brave the water rides!
Blizzard Beach - Based on a ski resort. Again lazy day or wild day the choice is yours. I found this water park the busier of the two.

Universal Studios - Great park not as big as Disney though. E.T, Men in Black and Shrek 4-D etc. New ride opening soon - The Simpsons, cant wait to try it out!
Islands of Adventure - Another great park. Spiderman ride a must!

Seaworld - Home of Shamu. A mixture of rides and shows.

Aquatica opens this year as well - Seaworlds waterpark looks quite big as saw it getting built last year.

Never been to Busch Gardens as that is mostly big roller coasters, Wet and Wild as have just went to Disney waterparks as easier when staying in Disney and Discovery Cove as not wanting to swim with the Dolphins But have heard it is good.

All in all a great place to go lots to see and do. You will never be able to to it all in one holiday. Thats why im going back again this year! :j
  • What the cheapest way to do it I'm a lone parent with 2 kids one 15 and the other 16 .
  • Hi i am new to this so here goes.
We are looking for flights to Orlando Florida in August, does anyone know of any cheap sites. We are looking for 2 weeks 2 adults 2 kids. I have searched quite a few and the prices are huge.
I have read some of the messages and people have managed to get cheap flights what are we doing wrong?
Hope someone can point us the right way.
