. FQ includes a parking pass with free parking at the parks (not sure if Riverside offers this).

Parking is free at the theme parks for any guest staying onsite at a Disney owned resort.

    Hi all.

Can anyone help me please with info to book a hire car for Orlando? We land @ Sanford mid Aug 09 for 21 days. What is a good price for a vehicle for 4 people, say one above the smallest, to include ALL charges like LDW and CDW as I've heard it's cheaper to pay these on booking rather than once you get there, if they are indeed necessary in the first place.

Sorry to ask such an open question but I'm a little naive on this subject to say the least. Any help on the cheapest, safest and easiest way to do is gratefully appreciated.

    Thank you

I would suggest either usrentacar or uscarhire which both give you quotes for all inclusive rates (including all insurances)>

They also give you either silver or gold rates, with gold offering four drivers, and a full tank of fuel.

You could try www.alamo.co.uk/brits, as they specialise in UK car hire in Orlando. But a quick search on any of the comparison sites like uscarhire.com and carrentals.co.uk should give you a good idea of the best prices at that time of year. You are probably looking for a Compact car (the second smallest after Sub-Compact or Economy), which is fine for just 2. If you have children, you might want to look at a Mid-Size or Intermediate.
want to know what the difference is between the french quarters and the riverside if anyone could help

KarenG is spot on here. The main pool at the French Quarter is usually distinctly quieter than Riverside, which is a more bustly resort. Both have the boat service to Downtown Disney, which makes for a nice ride, especially in the evening (look out for new Treehouse Villas along the way!) but there is more restaurant choice at Riverside. Both resorts are quite spread out, so be ready for a bit of a walk from the reception area to your room in either case. The bus service can also get VERY busy in peak periods, so if you have a hire car you might want to use that at times to save some long waits.

    Few Imponderables there, thriftkitten.
Time to go, are you taking the kids out of school? May June or Sept. Oct. are the quieter times to go..Nov.Jan.Feb. and March are the quietest and probably the cheapest.
Where to stay Villa is the best way to go, but if its just the three of you it could be a little lonely, and the kids would only have themselves to play with. And not too restful for you either.Disney resorts there is always something going on, so you would [probably] get more of a rest! I cannot see having a villa without a car.Whereas resorts have their own transport. Too and from the parks.

Best bet is to go to page one of this thread and look up some TA sites and get an idea of what its going to cost you! Tickets for the parks are expensive. And can be the dearest part of the holiday. Get some idea, and then come back with your questions.
One thing is definite--- you and the kids will have a wonderful time, a bit of stress now will save an awful lot of problems when you are there!
Hope that helps a little their are plenty on here that can help you.:D

I'm in a similar situation, single mum with 2 children 11 and 9. I went for a villa in August, although Atro mentions the loneliness, I'm not the sort of person who mingles with other holiday makers anyway, plus we get our own pool. If I want a rest there's plenty of space, not just one room in a hotel. Also we will save money by making our own lunches and possibly dinners because there's a full kitchen.

Flights and villa and car hire for 9 days in August came to slightly over £1,700.
Moving onto a better place...Ciao

I agree with atro Thriftkitten, we need a little more info please :)

If you are happy to drive then definitely consider a villa (though I agree this could get a little lonely for you perhaps).

If the thought of driving and navigating at the same time on your own is a bit scary, think about doing a split stay - say five nights on International Drive to do Universal / Seaworld etc, then the rest of the nights onsite at Disney. If you don't fancy the Disney hotels, there are some near Downtown Disney that aren't Disney but would be great for the parks as they have a regular bus service to all the Disney parks, and are walking distance to Downtown Disney, where you can link to the rest of the "world" on Disney's own transport.

I wouldn't hesitate to take my two girls to Orlando on my own - you will have an amazing time.

wow that is a great price.. well I think anyway, I like the idea of being away from the hustle and bustle as I like my quiet time after 8pm(single parent and all) plus I am very thrifty and love to enjoy the places and things to do but would prefer to do pack up lunches and cook some nights.

TY Atro, Hmm I'm very confused, i like the idea of the villa for the home style living, but yes your right, the kids will wanna play with someone or do something at night on the odd evening, plus if there is free transport to the parks, then that would beat hiring a car, paying for parking etc.
I think maybe the first 2 weeks in NOV, do you know how the weather is then, would stll want it to be warm.

First two weeks in November? Cheap flights, cheaper accommodation, nice weather, quiet in the parks. Great time to go :D

The only snag is that the parks tend to do refurbs of certain rides in the off season, but this will be more than compensated by not having to queue for ages :)
