You will not get a visa in time for July. The whole process takes at least 6 months.

I don't really understand this? Are you saying that everyone that books a holiday to the US for the first time less than 6 months before they go, cannot travel if they have a conviction? How many people actually realise that this is a problem....I certainly didn't!

What I mean is that if it turns out he does need a visa then you will not have time to complete the process. From applying to having a visa issued, interview at the embassy, paper work etc takes at least 6 months.

    Hi,
We (family of 2 adults plus 2 kids) are looking to book a fortnight in Orlando staying in apartment type accommodation on I-Drive for May 2010 (partly in school hols). I wonder if anyone can give me a couple of tips on how to get the best deal. (If I should try a different thread, let me know)

What kind of discount off the brochure price could I expect, booking 1 year in advance. I have no idea what level of discount I should expect off brochure prices. What margins to travel agents have to work with? (Many local shop-based agents - TC, Thompson, Coop have hinted to me they will offer discounts, but I don't know how much discount I should be pushing them for?)

Also, I planned to follow the MSE tip of trying lots of different discount travel agents who advertise on Teletext. However I can't get teletext as I am on cable ! Also the Teletext website doesn't seem very useful if I just want to identify lots of phone numbers of discount travel agents. Any idea how I can identify a few agents to try, or can anyone recommend some travel agents to try?

Any thoughts very welcome! Thank you.

This is untrue, you can get a visa in 6 weeks, this is the general waiting time for an appointment

Try pricing flights, car and appartments seperately. That will give you a start.

I can recomend Lake Beuna Vista Apartments beside the outlets on 535, they are superb

Remembering mine it took just over two months, with the passport being returned to me almost as soon as I got home by Motorcycle courier!
It was a horrible experience and expensive. And it took a long day to get it finalized on the day.
Two things that I do remember vividly, the first smile i saw all day was a copper armed to the teeth, and when i stated to him that it was the first smile i had seen all day he looked at me and said 'its wind'!! And breaking my neck to use the loo, and on leaving receiving a strange glare from a woman in the street I had not done my fly up!
I will say having the Visa has caused more disruption and questioning since I have had it than all the years I did not.

The U.S. is very strict on who it lets in, always has been, but now info is more freely available it's easier to catch out poeple who lie that they have no criminal record.

Get in touch with the embassy rather than risk being sent home after you fly in....

So, do you get the visa on the day you go for the interview?

Not quite. They take your passport and then send it to you by courier which you pay for on top of the other monies you pay!
It took me about three hours to get home and the passport came about an hour later!
