What you will find is you will manage on whatever you take.

A few years back i was bored and only had a few K available. I booked a 2 week holiday to Florida and only had £600 left for spend. That was for 1 adult and 2 kids.

    I had more than enough.

Most recently i went and spent to the tune of about £3k over 2 weeks.

Point being you can manage on whatever you take. If you search back over this thread i did a page on how to manage on £5 - £30 per day.
Thanks. I'll have a seach - may take some finding on this hefty thread though!

I've a few Q's about Florida if anyones willing to help.

Can anyone recommend some good but cheap villa's? If so, how far from Orlando?
How much spending money would you take for each for 2 wks? £400 enough?

There are 6 of us going (4 adults, 2 kids) and we plan to do a big shop and eat breakfast at the villa and 1 meal a day out. (e.g take packed lunch to the park or cook dinner in the eve).

Thanks in advance of your replies.

    Hi there

Here are my two penneth if they help you.

Lets do villa first. Whilst you can spend anything from 400 to 4000 a week they key thing for me is location. Please please check the location of the villa before you book and if need be ask on here. If you are planning on spending most of your time at Disney I would suggest something like Formosa Gardens or Emerlad Island. I would have also have though a three bed would be fine for you as well. Take a look at say https://www.allstarvacationhomes.com or https://www.lastminutevillas.net. Also there is a great map that shows you where they actually are all location at http://www.orlandovillas.com/Map.aspx

Take the distance to Disney with a pinch of salt. Disney is a huge area covering 43 sq miles !! Let is know where you are looking to book and we will give you the low down.

As for spending money. £400 a week is currently about $600 a week or say 85 a day. If you are buying brekkie for the villa then you will be fine. You can easliy eat at decent places like the Olive Garden (https://www.olivegarden.com) or Mannys Chop House https://www.mannyschophouse.com for under 30 bucks for two people and with kids maybe $40 for 2 adults and 2 kids but some places like Mannys or the Lonestar do kids eat free.

There are also a lot of even cheaper places to eat than that !!! well.

The parks are expensive for food and drink and so its wise to take something with you if that helps.

we used https://www.villarenters.com for Orlando as we'd used them before, they organise the transfer of money between renter and owner, a fee of £15 but it saves any hassle with foreign money orders
(we used a private forum before, and had a guy hounding us to cover his bank charges too even after we sent a proper money order once, and trying to add on extra taxes etc - never again!!)

We are staying on the Glenbrook resort in Clermont, has a communal pool and clubhouse/play area aswell as the house having its own pool. It's fine because we're driving, if you don't plan on driving then choose somewhere widely served by transport links.

When we go to the US on holiday we usually budget on $200 spending each day this is for a family of 5. We always try and pay for tickets before we go (Disney tickets for Florida, New York Pass for NY and similar for Boston). So this pays for food, tips, subway, bus, gas, souvenirs. On top of this OH and I have $1000 spending money each and we take about $250 each for the kids.

We are off to Boston this year and will take $4000 spending money. We will need to pay for all our meals as we are staying in a hotel on a room only basis. We need to pay for 15 meals a day and if our daily budget is not enough we'll use our spending money.

We want to go to Orlando next year but our oldest will not be going as he will be in his last year of uni and doesn't want to take the time out. I can't decide on which hotel to go to.

Omni resort Championsgate - Most expensive, room only but highly recomended from friends, luxury resort and great facilities.

Disneys Port Orleans French Quarter - Slightly cheaper (£150 less) Very near disney and includes free disney dining (quick service meal pack)

Hawthorn Suites Lake Buena Vista - Nearly £700 cheaper than the Omni and includes free breakfast, has kitchen facilities too and very good review on TA. Does not have the facilities of the other 2 though.

Hawthorn seems the obvious choice but would really love to stay at the first one, will think about it some more.

  • Me and my OH go to Florida every year (next trip June 4th YAY :j) and we always stayed in a villa in the Clermont area. We booked the villa and flights seperate as it worked out cheaper for us as the villa was owned by OHs friend. The family have since sold their property, so this year we have found that booking a package holiday with First Choice has worked out much cheaper, this includes flights, villa in Kissimee and car hire, total of £850 each!!! We take about £600 each for the 2 weeks and take our credit cards incase we run out, which is usually the case.

Id be interested in knowing which forum that was, I have a feeling I know!

As for Glenbrook, I was there last nigth in fact as there is a new Sweetbay supermarket next door. Its a nice place about 15 mins to the AK from there. Orange Tree is also nice but a little further north. Weston Hills good also.

I prefer the north US27 area myself for villas and LBV for hotels.

    Cheers

Never in a million years would I pay more to staff at Omi than POFQ. Disney resort every time if the figures stack up and the free dining is a plus and can also be upgraded too

We're staying at Disney with free Disney dining and it's going to save us a fortune, especially as our two older children count as adults (15 and 10 years old)

If I were you I would think about ugrading the quick service dining plan as well. It can be done fairly cheaply and gives a MUCH better choice of restaurants.

Would you upgrade the dining plan before you go or in resort?

and...would you recommend Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter or another moderate resort? Trip Advisor reviews are all pretty much the same and at the moment am leaning to Riverside..we would like good kids pools for 12 and 7 year olds, nice food and clean and modern accomodation.

    Many thanks
