    HI,

I am travelling to disney, staying at the port orleans, in 2 weeks and having never been before don't know the best way to take our money. Should we change it to dollars or take sterling, cash or travellers cheques, pre-paid card or credit card. Is the pre-paid card accepted in Disney??? So many questions??????

Any help on this would be greatly aprreciated.

I stayed at POFQ last month, its great. You can change US$ travellers cheques at the conciege desk (max $200 per day) this was very easy to do. I have been told that the parks/shops aren't exchanging travellers cheques as there has been quite a lot of fraud. As previous posters have said you can also charge purchases to your room key, just try to keep an eye on how much you've spent then you don't get a shock when you check out!

    Hope this helps

I would not take sterling at all. You will get hammered on the rate when you chop it in.

If you take a CC unless its an Abbey Zero, Post OFfice or Nationwide one you will get charged a percentage to use it. About 2.75 percent (they might be others that are free).

worth noting that Nationwide are going to start "passing on" a "fee from Visa" as of May.

    yep

but remember you can always buy fastpasses for Universal which may be cheaper than a room. Depends how many of you and when you are there

I think the fastpasses are a complete con :o

In my book nothing beats the stroll to Universal from the Hard Rock Hotel and the fabulous pool, in addition to the FOTL benefit. For two days FOTL access for the cost of one night's stay it is often going to be cheaper to book the room (though I know not everyone travels in peak times with a family of four like I do - the Fastpass option would cost me $400 for two days I think!)

Flo - we made the same mistake and spent four days at HRH a year or two ago. I would love to return but I want to do at leastf our days again, and the budget won't allow it unfortunately.

Cheers as usual KarenG, I wonder what the cost per night of the hotel would be?

BTW, and FYI, I had dinner with a executive VP of Disney yesterday and he was telling me that Disney have similar plans for Disney hotels and additional benefits beyond the magic hours. He would not be be drawn on the FOTL passes option but I told him it would be a bad idea for Disney to do that. He also confirmed that there are NO track changes planned for Space Moutain. A lot of work is going into the queuing area and the cars are all changing.

    Thanks

I went on Space Mountian a few months back and it was as sh*t as i remembered.

Best ride in whole of Disney (and its not really that good) Is rock n roll coaster, Mt Everest is good.Best kids ride (which mine loved) Was Toy Story at MGM.

Universal blows Disney away with Hulk.

You done Busch Gardens? I'm not a coaster fan, so enjoyed Space Mountain and wouldn't go on Rock n Roller Coaster :$ We went to Busch Gardens and the coasters there looked terrifying.

I was very impressed with Busch Gardens compared to any of the Disney parks (although we were all a bit old for "The Magic")

I haven't no, i always tend to go in Jan when Busch is closed.

But that said ive been to Six Flags all over the USA and the rides there blow everything away!

Superman ride of steel was best ive ever been on, Kingda Ka a close second, followed by Goliath at Six Flags over Georgia - where i was stunned to find you're only strapped in by something across your waist!

If you are going to Disney for "thrill" rides then you are going to be disappointed. Its not about thrill at all its about experience, theming, history, dreams etc etc. Space Mountain is a true iconic coaster. The TTA that is also closing is one of my favourite rides as well, they are not sh+t. but they are not thrill rides in the same vain as Universial or indeed Busch which has the better coasters.

Spce moutain is over 30 years old. I really do not think that Hulk will be as good in 30 years and stand the test of time as SM has. A good comparision is back in the early 80s when I was a wee lad we came to Florida as usual and spent time at the MK (as it was the only park open) and also Busch. At that time the key rides at Busch were the Scorpin and the Phython. These scared the heebeejeebees out of us but now they are confirmed to a crappy end of the park and are nothing to writie home about. SM was great when I was a boy even with the airplane seat belts and was great earlier this week when we rode it for the last time (before the change).

So to all Florida visitors if you want real thrill then really Disney is not up to Universial, Busch standards but Tower or Terror, Everest etc are good.

    Cheers
