Disabled people are God in the USA. You don't queue for absolutely anything. Im not kidding, its something that really winds me up - Disabled people go straight to the front of the queue. Any queue anywhere.
Come on Strull I know you like to be a little blunt but ...
People with challenges (as they say in America) should get all the help they need so that they can share in the magic. I know my father woudl not be able to walk around WDW all day with teh kids without his stick etc.
What is wrong is certain types of people who use the ECV scooters to queue jump when they have no mobility issues at all. We have all seem them and know what I mean,. thats wrong and as there are not many of these scooters available to hire is sometimes stops those that need it.
The link to allears posted above is very good. The editor in cheif of that site (the old WDWIG) is Debs Willis, she has also written a book on going to Disnmey with challanges. http://www.amazon.com/PassPorters-Mouse-Disney-World-Cruise/dp/158771048X
There is also a place right in Disney Boardwlak that offers scooter rentals for your entire staywww.buenavistascooters.com or 407-938-0349.

Hi
Have been mse fans for ages but never posted anything, so firstly hope this is posted in the right place in the correct way and very sorry if not!
We are two young at heart (one however not in body) adults, planning on visting orlando soon. Both been before years ago but before arthritis, hence the need for a scooter. Have a blue badge. Any tips or advice welcome.
thanks a lot
Also take your blue badge with you as its recognised in Florida and can be used there. But the safest way is to apply for a US permit. You can process the temporary parking permit through the mail. You will need to make a copy of the Blue Badge from the UK and send it in with U.S. Funds in the amount of $15.00. We will also need a copy of the Passport of the disabled person involved. You will need to mail to:
Patsy Heffner, Tax Collector
PO Box 422105
Kissimmee, FL 34742-2105
USA"
There is no indication of howyou send them $15, as obviously you don't want to put cash in an envelope (even if you have $15 to hand!). The official info doesn't help, either, on this link: http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/dmv/disabled_pkg.html. Maybe add your contact details and they will call you and take a credit card?
Tehre is an office on the trail which may be nearer to you when you get there http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/offices/orange.html
Hope this helps

I agee, those who need help should get it. But lets not get carried away. I am one who says there should be equal opportunities for all. But this is clearly not the practice when disabled people jump the queue. It would be far better if they could go down the fast pass at Disney etc. But as for WalMart and else where i think it is absolutely ridiculous that any person can simply go to the front of the queue and it annoys me. It annoys me every time it happens.
Never more so than last year at LAX when having already queued about a hour about 30 odd disabled people went straight in front of me. I was livid and i think it is a joke.
Its equall oppertunities for all or none at all in my book.0 -

thanks karen really useful info there. We remember how much we walked before (which was becoming hard even on the last visit) and recognise we would not be able to do anything much without a scooter. This visit is going to take more planning than prevous ones and we wont be able to fit as much in, but we are going to have fun
thank you
No worries - we went a few years back with my in laws, one of whom should have rented an ECV for part of the trip. She refused to (pride) and it had an adverse affect on the trip for all of us.
Planning's a large part of the fun I think0 -
bisto44,
At Disney, there are books for each site giving information on how to use the park if you have guests with disabilities. They list things such as which rides are accessible, etc. Kennedy and Universal have sections on their website for guests with disabilities that may also be useful. Just google Kennedy ADA or Universal ADA for more info. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Have you considered going in the weeks preceding Easter or indeed afterward?
It will be much much cheaper and less busy in the parks.0 -

Hey,
I would be careful with a Flydrive, as they often have loads of extras added on when you arrive to pick up your car. We went with First Choice and booked their flydrive option and my dad ended uphaving to spend hundreds on insurance etc. I've been told it's best to book a car separately and pay for everything in advance. I can't remember the websites now, but i'm sure other people can. Just wanted to let you know anyway0
