Here is what I woudl suggest..... i would stay at the Marriott on Sand Key. Its a beaustiful hotel in a great location and the staff are super. When we stayed there we watned a nice non chain resturant for dinner adn the conciege suggesed a plae called Villa Gallace in Indian Rocks, about a 15 min drive done one road.
http://www.villagallace.com/
Now it dont look much from teh outside BUT its owned by a proper italian from italy (not york)and he greats you, seats you (and its lovely inside) and then they will cook anything you like,
It really was the nicest meal I have had in Florida, in fact when we go back to Clermint we will drive toClearwater for the day and then have dinner here.
What I like about the marriott is it has a kinda artdeco feel, its a suite hotel and it you tell them its a special occasion they will go over the top. When we stayed there our key stopped working so they brought us the best cheese and biccies and some cookies for the kids and a bottle of wine. Cant complain

I am sure you can get a decent price direct from Marriott as they have a price gtee or try the old chesnuts like hotels.com etc
Hope this helps and have funnuudge nidge
Not sure if you have booked the marriott yet but I did last week and the cheapest was Virgin Holidays. There brochure price must be base on an old exchange rate as it was about £400 for 4 nights rather than the £650 other sites wanted.0 -
vivatosi, I thought it has been warm?
am I looking at sneeky faked temp gauges on villa rental sites?
It was bl**dy freezing. The worst thing though was the wind chill. There were 25 mph winds at the same time, so the gauges wouldn't have picked that up. It was the worst 3 day period since 1987, or so the NBC morning news was reporting. It was surreal driving around Disney, the beautiful tropical plant displays everywhere were all covered with white fabric, as were the citrus groves across the state. In Epcot there were little signs saying 'Jack Frost has paid us an unexpected visit, please excuse us while we replant'. If you are due to visit, the temps shouldn't get that cold again, but there is freaky weather in FL at the mo and so its still definitely worth taking warm clothes. By the end of the trip my jumper could have walked home by itself...
Edited to add: the overnight lows over the coming days are a massive 1 and 3 degrees C respectively. Universal Studios about to launch an 'unprecedented offer'.
From the Sentinel: Universal Studios will launch the offer during a 30 second commercial due to be broadcast during the Superbowl (Sunday night/Sat morning). Will be worth looking out for on the websites after that. Sorry, don't know what it is and won't be able to find out as working on a project from Monday that will diminish my access to the boards for a while. Wanted to make sure you are tipped-off in advance.

any advice please
we fly to america on the 16th feb,but yesterday my mum fell and she has broken her big toe, her friend has said you can't fly for 3 weeks does any one know we don't want to have to cancel but if their might be problems my mum's health is more important thank you michelle0 -
Hi, sorry to hear about your mums toe ... can be very painfull.
From my own experiance of broken toes I would speak to a GP & ask them for advice, I would imagine that the main problem would be discomfort when trying to get around.
I think the not flying for 3 weeks is if you have a larger break ie arm, leg etc.
You could always call NHS direct for advice.
I hope you can still go as its a brilliant place, lots of walking though !:j0 -
Unless your Mum's friend is a doctor, I would suggest before you do anything else that you check with her doctor whether she is able to fly. Florida is very well set up for people with reduced mobility so even if she has to go in a wheelchair (which you may be able to rent from your local Red Cross) she will be well looked after.
I wouldn't even think of contacting your insurance or the travel company until you have an answer to that first question. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? You must have been to a different Florida to me then. I was there 1st to 17th and it was lovelly. It was about 28 C every day and the one day it was cool i went to Miami and it was 30 C.0 -
I went from the 15th to 26th and was in Orlando not Miami. The freeze did not go much further south than Orlando and happened after you left, you are very lucky!
This is a news story about it, thank goodness I wasn't near Lake Apopka, where the temperature dropped to 16 - that's fahrenheit not centigrade...

Were the Flexticket Plus for children at £146?
I am trying to beat £165 for adults at the moment. Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper? Called Thomas Cook Signature but you need to book the holiday through them to qualify for the £150 price.
Thanks
quote=junpit;18151247]Hi
I booked in April last year and am now going through the process of trying to get the cheapest tickets. After scouting around, I could not believe my look when I went to service my booking and saw that the virgin system was quoting me
£208.00 21 day ultimate (adult)
£178.00 21 day ulrimate (child)
£130.00 flexticket (adult)
£110.00 flexticket (child)
They were also doing flexticket plsu tickets at well under what I could see. Obviously the advertised prices for a new ticket purchase are significantly higher than these.
Anyway I ordered the flexticket plus and 21 day ultimates. It would not however let me add the normal flextickets at 130 as the web site errored. I have been on the phone complaining and it did me no good.
My plus flexes were prices at 146.
Any ideas how I might get virgin to honour the 130.00?
