I did it a few years ago, enjoyed it but as for being worth the money I wasn't totally convinced....after 30 mins tops shared interaction with your dolphin then it makes for quite an expensive day at the beach although we did get 7 days at Seaworld included in the price and now they have different packages including Aquatica :D

Obviously its a lovely place, the numbers are limited to 1,000 so its not like an normal Orlando park with loads of people. The food is quite good, the people are nice, the photos they take can work out pretty expensive but we did enjoy the lazy river compared to using one at the other water parks where you are fighting for rings and a small space to move.

The following year we did a "behind the scenes at the Dolphin Nursery" at Seaworld for $40 and really enjoyed that but they no longer do it so I won't expand on that. Epcot do a dolphin encounter though which might suit your son, 3 hours for $150.

The other thing about DC at that time of the year is that it can be quite cold.
Thanks so much for the info but sadly my son is only 7 so won't be able to do the disney dolphin thing as you have to be 13!

Thanks for that, we've decided to upgrade them to the Ultimate Tickets, for an extra tenner pp it makes sense not to be restricted to only a handful of visits to the waterparks etc, especially as we're there for the last open week of Downtown Disney - want to have a look at it before it closes.

Am I right in thinking that you can't make the Ultimate tickets non-expiration, that only applies to the Premium ones?

Also, has anyone does the Segway tour at either Epcot or Wilderness whatsitcalled? Is it worth it?

    looks cool http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/guides/epcot/epws-segway.htm

    hi,
where off to Disney on the 25 th DEC for 15 days and was wondering the best place to get tickets i am looking for tickets for both Disney and universal not bothered about the water parks has teenagers don't want to go.we will be staying at Disney and using public transport.has i don't drive.
any advice would be great.virgin have quoted £12000 for four adults.
    £12000? for what?
your paying £3000 each for tickets?
i have stayed twice at disney all stars rsort and have never bothered to get a rental car, the disney transportation is excellent although a little crowded at closing times, you can ue the buses from resort to parks, the monrails and the boats, so one of them is going to get you where you want to go. we have also visited other parks, disney now have buses taking guests out to seaworls etc,(though this isnt free) its easier than worring about driving a hire car.Where are you staying, which disney resort? the disney website are doing 14 day ultimate ticket for the price of a 7 day premium, which is exclusive to uk guests only. And dont forget if your staying on disney property, you get 'extra magic hours' whee disny guests are allowed in the parks an hour before the public!, and you get disneys magical express service where they pick you up from the airport and take you and luggage direct to your hotel, and your luggage is tranfered to your room (this can take a few hours from you arriving so take with you what you might need ie swimming cossie!) hmm cant think of anything else...oh yes yiou could try attraction tickets direct for tickets, but at the moment disney are doing them cheaper ok...

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: What, When, I did not know this. Could someone enlighten me please. I go 6th - 20th November 2008

I'll be there the same time as you YM, hope we have great weather! They are shutting the nightclubs in Pleasure Island from September, so they will be gone by the time that you get there. I'm particularly gutted at the loss of the Adventurer's Club.

If you want an evening out without the "shopping and eating" spin that Disney's putting on everything these days, you still have some good options:

Catch a movie at the multiplex cinema at Disney's Westside
Go dancing at the Atlantic Ballroom on the Boardwalk
Catch Cirque de Soleil at Westside
See a band at the House of Blues on Westside

Or of course, you can always go to Universal Citywalk where the options are more numerous...

Thanks for the above. Checked out all the above and considered Pop Century but decided that with kids that we really needed a kitchen so opted for a suite/ house instead.

Have friends who own a suite at Hawthorne Suites, Lake Beuna Vista, but opted to stay at Vista Cay in a three bed condo. Feedback on tripadvisor was fantastic. Anyone else been there?
family suite at all star movies have a mini kitchen or the lodges at fort wilderness?

    Hi guys,

Can you help me out in relation to the above. Im going to Disney for 2 weeks over new year, so if i bought a 7day premium ticket could I essentially use that for 2 weeks eg 7days in the main parks and 7 days in the water park?

    Many thanks

no its 7 day ticket valid from 7 days from the first day its used. get the 14 day ulitmate ticket.much better value, umlimited 14 days anywhere as much as you want ticket and only cost an extra £10 from disney website

I've done the Epcot tour, well worth it as its great fun. Go for an early one as you are in Epcot before World Show Case opens to the public and its really interesting to see it with only CM's getting the park ready and you weave in and out of the different countries, including the shop in Morocco I think. Its two hours, an hour inside learning and practising then you start round WSC from Mexico with a break at Italy for photographs. We did it around 8.00 am and by the time we were heading back the park was quite busy. Its quite sore on the legs and we headed straight to the Finding Nemo ride to sit down :)

Thanks, I think we're gonna give it a go :D Are they easy enough to drive? Can you remember if you need to take a driving licence?

    Hi there,

I too am looking to do this in January. Firstly I thought this was very expensive and went about looking for another option, there dosnt really seem to be one. I did find a 2day 1 nite in hotel trip to the keys to swim with dolphins for £166 which shows just how expensive Discovery Cove is. Then I went on you tube to investigate the place and there was a video about how they should be in the wild and this isnt natural and now im slightly put off :(

Does anyone know if there are any alternatives?

    Thanks

    Hi,

While it often comes down to personal choice, I'm of the view that Discovery Cove treat the dolphins far better than parks in Europe and other destinations do.

I've not done Discovery Cove but I've read a lot about it, and by the sounds of it the dolphins are extremely well cared for, and you swim with them on their terms not yours. They're the guest, and they only interact/swim with you if they want to. It's not unheard of I don't think for a dolphin to have an off day, in which case they let it go back to, erm, wherever they go back to. They're not forced into anything...with them being such intelligent animals I think it'd be difficult to force them to do anything they didn't want.

Also, while you're completely right in saying it isn't natural, most (if not all) of the dolphins in parks have been born in captivity, so they know no different to their current home. They thrive on interaction and anything to keep them entertained, and it seems that Discovery Cove/Sea World certainly keep them entertained.

Have fun whatever you decide to do :)

Thanks for that. I only asked as my OH has been loads of times but has never been to Pleasure Island as she was to young at the time. Was 9 years ago and you do have to be 21 just in case you were wondering :rotfl:as she was 20 at the time. was going to go this year but , Hey Ho , there you go.

Just think we will probably walk past each other without knowing it. I will be the stressed out one with the screaming/Hyper kids who want to go on " Its a small world " again :D. Should narrow it down to about 1000 people ;)

Hope the weather is good for us
