Trans Female moving to Yorkshire, where should I move to ? Nervous/Worried!

Have you thought about the coast, I've had a few visits to Scarborough and Filey in the last couple of years and both seem pretty nice places.
I did have a look around Scarborough but couldn't really understand where the best areas were and couldn't find much opinions on the place.
A sea view however would be lovely!0 -
As someone who is from Yorkshire I find it a little insulting. Yorkshire isn't some medieval backwater still living in the Dark Ages and in fact the place I come from had the lowest level of crime in the entire UK and in the last year in the 13 categories the Home Office figures record had just 702 recorded crimes from October 2017-September 2018. That is in stark contrast to London where in a Moneysupermarket survey 16 London boroughs appear in the top 20 of postcodes with highest rates of burglary.
I don't think the OP's question is insulting to be honest, my experience is that some Yorkshire folk can be intolerant of those who are different.
Lived here 6 years after moving from London. I love Yorkshire and for the most part most people are friendly, however even now there will be the odd occasion when someone catches my accent and looks at me as though I've stepped off a spaceship :rotfl:
OP, my advice would be to pick a 'nice' area (already some good towns mentioned on this thread) and avoid tiny villages!0 -
Places on the coast can be a bit grim out of season. But Whitby is an open-minded place (we turned up at Hallowe'en one year not dressed as Goths, and although we got a few funny looks, no-one really minded...)No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

Thanks for your comment! I'm originally from Scotland so not sure how that accent will go down :rotfl:

Does anyone have any experience of Great Ouseburn in Carrside? It looks very small but there is the most delightful property there that is ticking a lot of boxes for me.... Any opinions would be great x0

I'm assuming you mean Carrside (street) in Great Ouseburn - nice village, easy A1 access but watch commuting time into York. Worth checking status of the village pub (The Crown) - seem ro remeber it's now abandoned so nowhere within walking distance if that's imprtant to you0 -

Yep that's right!
It looks very small and certainly not much happening there...
Hmmm the property ticks the boxes for me but unsure if its worth sacrificing the ease of access to bars/etc in Harrogate by living there.0 -
I would suggest looking at Horsforth. On the edge of Leeds, but has its own community feel. Its quite a "trendy" area now, so may be a bit pricey, but on the plus side, it has a direct train link to the city centre and to Harrogate and York the other way.
An old school friend of mine (who is gay and proud) lives there. We went to uni together in Leeds (graduated 15 years ago or so now) and he stayed around Leeds, and has been settled with his husband in Horsforth for a number of years now. He's never had any trouble there.0
