Trans Female moving to Yorkshire, where should I move to ? Nervous/Worried!

You could look at Todmorden (possibly starting to get a bit far out though) and Mytholmroyd as well - either side of Hebden and similar feels.
A lot of the Calder Valley is lovely, actually. I will be very sad to leave it when we move next year!0 -

Were it not for the fact that my part of Devon seems quite similar, I'd be over there, quick as a flash! :rotfl:0 -
Oh I don't know. I think money sold her area of West Wales rather well..... to me at any rate.

:rotfl::rotfl:Well the fresh air here is a plus side - particularly as I'm not a car-owner and don't/wouldn't have a woodburner stove myself:)
You'd probably appreciate the "not having to dress smartly" ethos either - unless you like rather more formal social events (in which case - I'm told the women at least "dress up" a lot more than we do). Someone here said to me "One of the things I like is not having to bother to change to come in town after I've done the gardening....."0 -
Another vote for Hebden Bridge. It has a look and feel all of its own.
Also Otley, Skipton, Ilkley (a miniature Harrogate, complete with a branch of Betty's but without the queues...).
Bingley is improving by the month and has excellent rail links (19 minutes to Leeds, trains every 30 minutes).
All the best with your move. Yorkshire is a lovely place to live, with generally easy access to cities, market towns, open countryside and coast. I don't think you'll have any difficulty finding your niche!
I volunteer at a historical site - we get a very wide range of visitors, particularly since the 'Prejudice and Pride' season last year. Earlier this year we received a letter from a man and his wife who had come to visit us, thanking us for treating him normally. He had chosen to wear a green dress and hiking boots. Our genuine reaction was 'Why wouldn't we treat him normally?'No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, Mytholmroyd are expensive in comparison to equally nice Yorkshire villages/small towns.
Some of our rellies live in Horbury, very nice friendly place and ultra affordable. Others live around the Huddersfield area, again with lovely small villages and great views over the Calder valley. Dewsbury is on the Manchester-Leeds-York line, and although not a nice place itself, does have nicer parts around (Mirfield, Upper Batley, Thornhill Edge). You will definitely get a house and garden at an amazingly affordable price in these areas, and the people are friendly too.0 -
I don't know anything about Yorkshire but I just wanted to say something about who you are...don't label yourself, you are a human being. Be who you are and those around you will see that. There are some right idiots out there that push you back, but you just be you.0

Thank you for your kind words :T:) Very true!0 -

Thank you!
So far I have found some amazing properties in the following..
Ilkley
Harewood
Norwood Green
Cawood
Harrogate
Burley in Wharfdale
If anyone has any particular negative or positives about the above let me know!0 -
I'm close to both Ilkley and Skipton. Personally I find Skipton much more friendly - lots of tourists, farmers from outlying areas come into town - a real mix of people. Ilkley can be a bit up itself, a bit on the "posh" side, (sorry to anyone in Ilkley!)
I also have experience of Batley/Mirfield/Dewsbury - couldn't wait to leave to be honest. The links to Leeds and York are good, but road traffic is a nightmare. I wouldn't exactly call them 'open minded' places, either. House prices are cheap, though.0 -
Have you thought about the coast, I've had a few visits to Scarborough and Filey in the last couple of years and both seem pretty nice places.0
