Your grasp of English seems pretty poor, there's spelling/grammar mistakes in almost every single post you make. Is that just down to a poor education and/or lack of intelligence? I find it hard to accept any advice you offer as credible when you cannot get the basics of the language correct. So woud you take advise from somone who posted advise to tkae it to hte reggulator?Oh come on! They claim they've sent their bonifides to MSE. Where have MSE said they have varified them?
You were saying something about judging people by their hurried typing on a forum? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I think labman's using satire.
Whilst I agree with the thrust of Les' post, the incoherency and disruptive nature of their contributions under the defence of dyslexia is not fair on the people who come here seeking help.
I think I've just been guilty of the same thing.Originally Posted by shortcrust

What you've just said literally makes 0 sense to me whatsoever, but if you refute the claims then make a valid point against them; don't just attack the user!!Oh come on! They claim they've sent their bonifides to MSE. Where have MSE said they have varified them?
Well, the online dictionary suggests that it is. If it isn't, I use it as part of a regional dialect. Is Yea a word?..just asking?
Oh and the English language is continually evolving.
Pretty sure you've just made a hash of the "ellipses" after your first ? mark but I don't give a rats !!! (or should it be "rat's !!!"?). I understood what you meant and that's the end of the matter.0 -

Did you not declare yourself out? Pants on fire?0 -

Out in regards to trying to convince you that your comments were a bit below the belt for the user.
Not about you criticising me. Though I'm flattered that, despite having a wordy reply from me, you literally only picked up the word "yea" to criticise!
Does that make me more intelligenter than Genuineguy?

If someone 'refutes' a set of claims, then by definition, they have made a valid point (or more) against them.
I think the word you were looking for is 'dispute'. And yes, you could argue, 'English is evolving, confusing "refute" with "dispute" is getting so common it is no longer a confusion', however 'refute' is a useful word with a well-established meaning, and it would be nice not to lose it...0 -

I *get* what you're saying there, but it is either obtuse and/or pedantic.
Bottom line is that the user said:

Do you think that this comment refuted GG's post? I don't think it is a valid point.... and I just want LABMAN to "refute" the user properly, in a way which doesn't personally insult them.
Well, I wanted to use "riposte" to be fair but I think that it is out of LABMAN's remit..I think the word you were looking for is 'dispute'.
I feel that I used the word "refute" in an acceptable way.And yes, you could argue, 'English is evolving, confusing "refute" with "dispute" is getting so common it is no longer a confusion', however 'refute' is a useful word with a well-established meaning, and it would be nice not to lose it...
Though your post saddens me even more! The likes of GG have to contend with people who think that they aren't intelligent because their English is poor, and then people like me (good education and a fair grasp of English) have to contend with people like you who feel that they have a "monopoly" over the English language.
Life would suck if people were to listen to the likes of you and LABMAN about such matters.
EDIT: As a whacky experiment, why don't you go onto FB and join the local community group on there? Then try and correct some of their English spelling mistakes and see how that pans out? Welcome to life, surrounded by those who can't spell "refute" if their life depended on it BUT YOU'VE GOT TO LIVE WITH SAID PEOPLE!0
