    Good morning everyone.

Brrrrrr....winter is here with a vengeance. Still no snow but very cold, damp, grey and miserable.

Champagne moments are all of the Hygge variety, keeping warm and toasty, good hot meals, curling up with my heated sofa throw of an evening reading, watching some of my favourite films, spending time with family and friends.

Don't wish to sound smug because although I am by no means rich I am warm, comfortable and happy and debt free.

Today I am going to walk to the library. Yesterday my son sorted out all my gym equipment for me and set it up in the spare bedroom together with a spare tv and DVD player so now I have a nice warm designated exercise space. The equipment has been in the shed so it's dusty and grubby. Today I shall clean it up and start using it.

Ancientmum. A couple of hours a day and you will soon have your hallway transformed.

I am having a couple of days break from my painting. I forgot to wear a mask or open any windows, precautions i should always take because paint fumes upset my stomach. So I'll have a little break and then resume when the weather is warm enough to open the patio doors. I've got plenty of other jobs I can be getting on with.

Hope you are all well, keeping warm and enjoying simple pleasures and a few inexpensive champagne moments.
  • No champagne moments over here :D But I will be going to the dentist on the 29th and ask hi about a (possible) mouthguard / gum guard. I feel like I grind my teeth way too much during sleep and this might help against the grinding and pain in the morning.

I try to make 2019 the year of taking care of my health

I am going to try to create a champagne moment for myself this afternoon by doing a bit of painting. I like copying things from the internet but there is always something I have to do,somewhere I have to be or the light has gone. If I am lucky I will have an hour of light. I am going to cast aside the ironing pile.

I am going to an art workshop at the cathedral on Saturday so that will be a champagne moment.

Good idea. I used to do that on one side of my mouth and I have now lost the ones I used to grind. However, the dentist has suggested I have my teeth whitened as a morale booster so I start the treatment tonight. I have mouthguards for this.

My champagne moment yesterday was going to watch Mary Queen of Scots using my Odeon Limitless card.

I was totally engrossed in the film as it unfolded. The 2 women leads Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie were superb. It was fascinating to me to see how both women had to continually fight to maintain their power even though they were both Queens. They were beset from all sides by powerful men wanting to wrest their power from them. They were both extremely wise and strong women. I was literally cheering the both of them on. The scenery is stunning and I loved the costumes for the female and male leads even though they may not have been strictly historically correct. For me this film was a 10/10 :D:j

I went to see that on Monday afternoon. Lovely film. I was gripped by it all the way through and Saoirse looked stunningly beautiful.

Was really fed up today, work was really pee ing me off.Just booked a very cheap week in Tenerife for 11th March. £300 all inclusive, cheap enuf that if I don’t like the food I’ll eat out. Just need some heat and sun. Using a voucher for a facial tomorrow I got in a Black Friday deal for a tenner. Plenty of champagne after a rubbish week!
  • Hi,

I have enjoyed reading this thread from the start and LessonLearned - you sound such a lovely positive inspirational person.

The thread caught my attention as 'Champagne lifestyle/lemonade budget' is a bit of a mantra I use with my 18 yr old daughter everytime we get a bargain to try and teach her that you don't have to spend lots of money to look good or have good time ('Fake it till you make it' is our other catchphrase!). I think it's working as she doesn't like paying full price for anything.

I turned 55 last year and am planning on retiring hopefully at the end of March and am looking forward to having more time to plan and cook ahead and hopefully be able to reduce the food bills. There have been some great ideas on this thread for socialising on a budget. I am also hoping to do a few little decorating and upgrading jobs without spending too much money. I have already joined a gym
in anticipation of getting fitter, and having somewhere to go during the day if I am at a loose end, it felt very indulgent to get a gym membership but had a cracking offer in the quiet period just before Christmas and have already been to a couple of pilates classes.

Looking forward to lots of champagne moments in the forthcoming months.
  • My champagne moment on Wednesday was the arrival of my sister H, who is visiting with us until Sunday. :D

My champagne moment yesterday was going to see the play Nine Night with my sister H at Trafalgar Studios. Both of us really enjoyed the play. It is a play about how Jamaican families will celebrate the life of a family member who has died by opening their home from the night of the death until the 9th night after the death with music, food and alcohol in abundance for family and friends. It is a play about the family dynamics and family relationships and how they change and shift after the death of a family member. :D My sister had bought our tickets for this play last November. :D

I will be sharing more champagne moments with my sister until Sunday.

    Good morning everyone.

A nice leisurely start to the day. Another grey miserable Here. GlD I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn anymore, dice the car and battle my way through traffics. The joy of being retired.:D

Hi Mrs Vanderkamp.....it won't be long now and then it will be your turn. Good idea to join a gym in readiness. And of course you will have spring just round the corner to jumpstartyour retirement. Must admit I'm looking forward to some warm sunshine.

Lantana. Your holiday to Tenerife Sounds like a real bargain.

SUgarbaby......sounds like fun with your sister. Enjoy.

Had my first go in my home gym yesterday. Just a few minutes to start with, I need to take it slowly and build up gradually. Not go at it bull at a gate.

Have to stay in today to await the delivery guy so a nice gentle day.

Hi all, my champagne moment was celebrating my brothers birthday yesterday ,we had a lovely evening and my family wouldn't let me pay for drinks it was their treat for me.
Tonight my other sister is treating me to a panto, a large group of family is going too, I find time spent with my loved ones are always the most precious.
LL the cruise sounds great, I would love it, I had a lovely cruise to Croatia and venice last summer with my sister, it really whet my appetite for cruising. The cost of going as a single is huge though!

On the subject of dyeing, has anyone tried dyeing a brushed cotton duvet cover? I was pondering trying this with dgsons cover when the weather is better. It's a faded wine and cream check at the moment, would I be ok with blue? Would it need to be navy?:o
